I know that probably most of you folks don't care the least about the Necron's, but as someone who enjoys their fluff, daemenorr, and all around cool guy backstory(as cool as it gets for soulless walking automatons anyways!) I thought that maybe some of you folks could shed some light onto how the army list could:
a. Be made more customizeable
b. more diverse
c. more fun to fight against.
Personally I think a and b are easy fixes, but I'd like to hear some honest opinoins about how the necron list could be diversivied. Unit ideas! New troop choices? New ways for my little robots of doom to get around the table to unleash gauss death upon my unsuspecting foe. For instance what would happen if say immortals or a "squad leader" for warriors was allowed to equip a warscythe? Power weapons ftw!
c. I think is one of the main reasons I started collecting orks. Whenever I mentioned to a fellow 40k player that I played Necron's, all I ever received were exhasperated sighs of frustration and dismay; and while that's encouraging in one sense, in another it isn't, because what fun is it to play against someone who doesn't want to fight against an army of robots that can take a licking and keep on ticking.
Thanks for posting and your ideas!

Squad leaders and sarge equivalents would be terrible for necrons, uniformity is what they're about. Customization should come from unit-wide upgrades, like d-fields and grenades. Or from the Lord who could get all sorts of buffing/support abilities. I don't want an Immortal leading 9 warriors in a necrodermis rhino equipped with a gauss fist.

Ya, nalyk, pretty much everything you want out of necrons is what SM are right now. *Shrug*
Well, except maybe the "fun to fight against" part. But playing necrons myself, I'm not a fan of playing against SM. Unfortunately that is the main army of all three of my buddies that play as well.

Necrons, imho, just need to get better (stat and codex wise). Personally, the way I feel that an army is interesting to fight against is if it has a cool backstory, generally one outside of basic fluff. Also, if your opponent has some good tactics, they generally tend to be interesting players, and therefore make the battle interesting, if not fun.
