Ninjas,

I'm in the process of theming my army. I've been slowly puting the army together on and off over the past 10 years and finally decided upon a chapter icon and theme. I think themed armies look amazing and would very much like to see some really inspiring armies that you have put together. Anything from a single mini, small combat squad or full army.

I have scoured the interweb and Dakka galleries and found a few great ones (such as this Renaisance-themed Space Marine army, Rob_Jedi's Bioshock themed WarMachine army and Mastiff's Haggis-scented Space Marine army).

So, let's see your themed armies. Please post a pic or link so we can admire your hardwork.

Rock on.

I dont have any pics of my army yet because at the moment they are nothing but a collection of ideas and a few squads of troops trickling into my collection. I would imagine you will see pics of them on here in 6 months. Anyway, I will share the basic idea behind the army.

Army: Space Marines
Name: Tempest Guard
-- Have decided on Pedro Kantor as my HQ choice (primarily because I got him in a packaged deal with a few other characters. Never had a need for him)
Color Scheme: A dark blue with a hint of purple, they have a lightning bolt down the left side of their armor (yes, I bit a little from the nightlords).
Fluff: My army is based and deployed on their homeworld which is a ferocious jungle planet. Their planet gets an accumulated total of about 2 months of sun a year and 3 moons orbit the planet. Typically it is dark and cool in the jungle. Thus, the Tempest Guard excel at infiltrating and scouting. Because of this trait, they have opted to not use any loud or clunky vehicles like tanks, instead they prefer the element of surprise with drop pods. Also they have no Terminator squads because they are a very small 23rd founding (they are not at full chapter strength). What they do have however are scouts and lots of them. Basically half of their troops entries are scout squads.

Well that all I have for now....keep an out for the Tempest Guard who will most likely make their first appearance on Dak around Nov (after I clear my workbench of the Blood Angels, Eldar, and IG )

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

Craftworld Utash'Te themed army
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-39343-14239_Craftworld%20Utash%27te%20Army%20Pics.html

Since there is 4 pages of pics here, showing 10K pts worth of Eldar it's just easier and takes up less space to just paste the link instead of pics.

the short story to the theming of this army.
Craftworld Utash'Te colors were Purple and Blue, trouble arose and Craftworld Ulthwe and Harlequins helped to save them. In honor of the sacrifices made, they incorporated the black of Ulthwe and adopted a counter-change pattern like Harlequins. all the models have green and black as well as purple and blue in some way, although there are variations within my army, those variations are to distinguish certain groups. IE: Farseers and Warlocks mainly use purple, green, and black with blue as a highlight. guardians are green and black, with purple and blue as highlights. tanks and other vehicles use green and black for main colors with purple for highlights and turrets, and blue for the weapons. Aspect warriors also use green and black as main colors, but have also included their shrine colors onto one chest plate of their armor. so the dire avengers have a blue chest plate, the fire dragons have an orange plate and so on, in some cases though the shrine color is also used elsewhere but only as a highlight.

this army has been in the process of stripping and painting for years now and still is not finished, but eventually the entire army will be as described above, the rangers will be the only ones that initially will look different as they will have camo cloaks themed to different seasons and be based that way as well, but the armor under the cloaks, as well as weapons and helmets will still be themed to the rest of the army. I'm also in the process of painting my super heavy scorpion tank(not pictured) so that it is also themed to this army and the same goes for my new version revenant titan(also not pictured). The only model in the entire army that will not be themed to the army is Kaela Mensha Kaine, my Avatar, i want him painted so that he looks like lava under red hot armor plates, like i've seen elsewhere. Having a bit of trouble pulling this off though.

other colors that are stretched across the army is Gold, Brass, Copper, and Antique Bronze as well as Silver, although Gold is the one that is mainly used.
hope you like it.

Element206: Sounds good. Get some pics up sir.

Nightbringer's Chosen: Those nids look awesome The little crabs eyes on the genestealer made me chuckle.

Flinty: Awesome .. but thanks mate, now I'm going to lose another to Starcraft. Looking forward to seeing some painted.

SebastionSynn: Don't know much about the Eldar. The colour scheme is striking though .. and I see a few sweet conversions in there. I dig it.

Kilkrazy: I saw your Warriors and just wee'd my pants. The serpent style is eff'n amazing. Your bases are great too. That's a gorgeous army.

ArbitorIan: That made me laugh. Made me think of ol' Captain Cook rocking up the he Australian shores in 1788 for the first time in .. wielding a melta-gun. Nice army.

thanks for the compliment, here's my other themed army that actually has some painted work. My orks will eventually be themed as well, they will be painted up according to the Bad Moons Color scheme, and for those boyz that are from different ork clans well they will be led by a Nob carrying a Bad Moons Bosspole, or by a Bad Moons Nob.

so, anyways, to give you the short story once again for this army, Hive Fleet Murder.
In the Horus Heresy novels, before Horus betrays the Emperor, his fleet responds to a request for assistance from the blood angels. the last transmission they recieve is garbled and what they hear is, "this world is .....Murder.....", end of transmission. Thusly did the Imperium name the world Murder. What they found on the planet was an insect/reptilian race that exuded metal into their carapaces and weapons, chiefly their Scything Talons. It was found that the talons used by this race were so sharp that they cut through marine armor with ease, and the carapaces were so hard that they blunted space marine swords, so the marines had to sharpen their weapons every night. In the past this insect/reptile race had warred with a human/ alien coalition and lost, they were subsequently stripped of their capabilities of space flight and grounded to the planet by the coalition. For 6 months Horus and his men fought on planet murder and never made any headway. Thousands of lives were lost and hundreds upon hundreds of Imperial Armour shattered beyond repair. They never did name the race, but when i read of them everything they described in the book was to my mind exactly like Tyranids. The marines never went back to planet Murder either but instead gave it a wide birth from there on out.

My thought processes were along the lines of, What if these insect/reptiles used the marines technology that was left behind to recreate the capability of space flight once again. I also wanted the army to pay homage to thier movie backgrounds, where they starred with Sigourney Weaver, and were simply called Xenomorphs, so to that end i smashed the two ideas together, and created Hive Fleet Murder where they have pinkish red skin under a black, shiny hard chitin covered in slime, and are armoured up with exuded metal carapaces and weapons. In order to give the army some color i also added in Brass, Bronze and Copper along with the different silver metals used.

My Lamenters are a first company army, so only terminators. Nothing too tricky there.

My Imperial Guard are clone troopers mass produced to deal with Adeptus Mechanicus explorator expeditions deemed too dangerous or not useful enough to send Skitarii or regular Imperial Guard regiments. They are low quality grade clones, with none of the fanaticism of the Death Korps or the genetic superiority of the Afriel Strain.

My Ordo Xenos army (codex GK) will be henchmen sporting eldar weapons and/or tactics, and 3 armored up, spirit-jacked wraithlords counting as dreadknights. The theme is that a radical Ordo Xenos inquisitor seeks out, and ultimately finds, a shrine containing 3 wraithlord shells, long abandoned, and imbues in each the spirit of a primaris battle psyker for control.

My minis are getting mailed form Australia this week. So I should be able to get some pictures up once they're done. Aiming for early April.

I like the idea behind the nids. It's a great concept. I didn't really feel it in the models though. I think my own imagination went off on a tangent and I envisioned SM weapons morphed into nids weapons, plates of metal armour riveted onto the chittin, etc. Original though!

Is that legal? Who cares it will look awesome. Admittedly, it was the Eldar and IG walkers that got my attention when I first walked past a GW store. The Eldar walkers reminded me of sexier AT-ST's from Star Wars (the comparisons between IG walkers and AT-ST's is more obvious).

As long as the weapons options are clear (I plan to use the imperial weapons from the Dreadknight kit) and the size is the same (I'll be using the Dreadknight's oval base) I don't forsee any problems. For my troops with eldar weaponry I am thinking about shuriken weaponry as storm bolters.
