Hey all this is my Vulkan count as for my Sanguine Templar army. He is still largely a WIP but I am making progress on him. Basically I am building him "truscale" seeing how he will mostly be running with terminators it will make him look more appropriate, and when he is with normal troops he will look like the bad a$$ he is The gauntlet still needs a ton of work, I will be adding in green stuff around the back of it to make them look like they are part of the gauntlet. I also still need to build out both paldrons and make the cape, which brings me to my question....

I really dont want him to to look too Salamander-ish, there probably will be no Salamander icons on him, but I do want to give a nod to the Salamanders and I was thinking the cape would be a great way to do that, i.e. scales. I am looking for some advice/tips on how to make the scales. My current plan is to build as much of the cape as possible on a flat piece of glass using green stuff, then I will add a second layer of greenstuff that is more patchy and that will have the scales on them? any thoughts?

Any way's enjoy the pics for now and I would appreciate any feed back you all could offer, this is my first ever "conversion" model since I started 40k a year ago, so I am a bit new to it all still.

why do you want to know? huh? HUH?

Go to mini war gaming and search sculpting a greenstuff tabard. You could easily do the same for a cape.

Or get an existing plastic cape and put GS "dots" on it, then mash the dots into a scale pattern on the cape.

This guy has done a couple of awesome Vulkan conversions.

This particular post discusses how he made the cloak on his 28mm version.

Might I say, yours is looking suitably frigging awesome.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Thanks guys for all of the tips....Any other suggestions on making the model look better?

As far as the cape goes I have the commander cape I might try and use that as a base to work from.
