AOBR orks only have one arm posable, as the other is molded in place. Heads and right arms are swappable, and can be pushed into place rather than glued if you like.
Regualr orks are a bit more posable, with a few more options.
Most of my horde are AOBR, and I have no issue with that

AobR Ork Boyz are snap together models that are simpler to put together than Ork Boyz box. They lack the kind of customization you can do with the actual box, but they're easier to put together.

Can you turn them into Shoota Boyz/ do they even come with items to allow this?
Otherwise thank you two for explaining.
20 orks for £12 looks very tempting.

yup
Glue a shoota arm instead of a slugga, and have him firing it one handed. I did. Much more macho
They don't come with shoota arms or any other options, but ebay has bag-o-arms sales all the time.

Yeah they don't come with shoota bits but a conversion isn't impossible. They are slightly less detailed but they are great for bulking out hordes. I have a fair few of them and they blend in nicely.

To make shoota boyz you'd have to chop off their moulded on arm using a decent set of clippers. Stick with AoBR for sluggas and standard boxes for shootas.

Ah, I see. Just found an image of one online.
Considering I would need to do that roughly 60 times, it probably isn't worth the hassle.
.. Though then again, it would give me something to do.

AOBR Boyz are a great investment to start an ork army;
often dirt cheap, with little customization needed (as slugga and choppa boyz are exactly that; paying for anything more is silly points wise), and help fill out an army better than any other cheap model short of Space Marines.
Hell, getting the whole AOBR set is a great way to start both an Ork and Space Marine army.

I find AoBR boyz are dirt cheap. If you cut off the static arm, you can fit almost any of the other boyz arms onto them.
They take Burna arms, Loota arms and shoota arms really easily.
I did an experiment to see if I could build 30 'ard boyz for 30$ and I was abled to get 30 AoBR, 30 sets of shoota boy arms and a load of nob plastic shoulderpads for 30$ on ebay.
I find almost every bitz swap meet has a horrible bag of 3rd edition shoota arms because in 3rd edition we got 16 boyz per box and shoota boys were garbage so no one used them. So there are always thousands of shoota arms in a baggie in someones basement.

Second this. Half of my Lootas\burnas were made with the spares from the Loota\burna box, combined with AOBR boys bodies & heads.

All but a few of my nobz are...
A fair few of my lootas and burnas are on AOBR boyz...
Tank crew.. you guessed it
Deffkoptas - no way i was buying thr fugly metal ones.
AOBR was well worth it to me. I bought several other people's armies when they moved on to new armies (marines generally) went halves with them on AOBR to build those.
Every time i think i'm getting to really hate GW i remind myself that AOBR was a really great idea
If i did fantasy Skull Pass or Island of Blood would be the same

I have to say I am in love with the AOBR Boyz. I collected 100 of them for a Green Tide (painting them all to a good standard is one of my crowning accomplishments) and I am collecting a second 100 at this time. (See my trade thread if you have some you want to trade to me!)
The quality is excellent. They are easier to put together. When finished, you can't tell the difference between these and regular Boyz. Although one arm is molded on, there are several different poses across the 20 models you are given, so they look great in a mob. You could mix in some regular Boyz for variety, but I don't think anyone would care that some Ork had his Choppa in a strange position relative to the others. It just doesn't add that much.
So if you want Slugga Boyz, GO FOR IT. Re: Shoota Boyz, I don't know if it is really worth it. You could convert them, but it would be way too much trouble IMHO. Unless you are 1) really strapped for cash 2) have the Shootas and arms already and 3) have extra time on your hands for the cutting and chopping you will need to do to make it fit, I'd say use 'em as Slugga Boyz as nature intended.
AOBR is the best thing to happen to the Orks in a long time. Large numbers of quality models at a very good price. Just what every aspiring Warboss needs to start his WAAGGHH! off right without busting the wallet apart. And a fine addition to the collection of any existing Warboss.

I got bored of AoBR boyz pretty quick in my Ork army. Their largely horizontal poses are kind of unnatural, and really don't like fitting in any cases. I know some people run green tides of 100+ though, which would drive me nuts. I like having a bit more variation in my Orks.

That last one is a big problem with AOBR Nobs, which I can absolutely not recommend. The price is right but the poses blow for actually putting in foam. I got a regular Nobz box and was much happier with those.

Given the relatively low price of the Nobs box, coupled with all the nobz you get in boyz boxes (assuming you want to build shootas), the AOBR nobs are really extraneous.

I have been able to get the molded arm off of 4 of the 5 (except left hand low held big choppa torso) with a micro saw. That really helps with the variety of poses. Hard to pass them up on occasion some of the auctions go for dirt cheap.

My entire Ork army has only 9 non-AoBR models: 9 Killa Kanz. These guys are a great investment, especially if you can get creative with bitz (My mek is a AoBR Nob).

I agree with this.
I have something like 35 AOBR Nobs right now. I've been working on them for the APOC unit called Ghazghkull's Bully Boyz. Oh, a thing of beauty. Played these in a game and actually got all three of the Ork Roks to smash into the enemy. It was glorious.
Re: not fitting into foam, I made a custom box for mine. And if they don't fit in foam, I'd call that a problem with the box, not with the models. I like my Orks large and in charge.
In any case, I have to agree that the similarity in Nobs is more noticeable than the similarity in Orks. I suggest adding some bits to the Nobs. And unless you are ready to do some major converting, I'd say one AOBR Warboss is probably enough. I have 7 of these anyway, I am crazy for Orks.
