who wants to know?

an idea i had. ps. any other alternative name you think it should be would be thanked (i dislike this name)
The Zeus drop pod..............................................................................................................points 9500
The Zeus is primary weapon used when trying to reclaim a lost planet of the imprium. In the early stages of the first assault on the enemy, large orbital battle cruisers will enter low orbit and will drop a Zeus drop pod into the mist of battle, the giant behemoth will slowly settle before unleashing it massed army within while its massive gun provide covering fire. After dropping its load of guardsmen the Zeus will take to the air again and make the enemy witness hell.
Unit: 1 Zeus drop pod
Type: super heavy skimmer
Structure points: 20
Void shields: 15
Transport cap: 500
- Infantry = 1
- Calvary = 2
- Walkers = 3
- Tanks = 4
- Flyers = 4
- Super heavy tanks = 10 + void shields + structure points
- Super heavy flyers = 10 + structure points
- Super heavy walkers = 20 + void shields + structure points
Access points: 1 at the front (counts as 20) and 3 on either side (counts as 10 each). Take note that super heavy’s can only embark/disembark from the one at the front.
Fire points: any infantry can chose to fire from the firing platform. Take note that any infantry on the firing platform can’t disembark that turn; also any model embarking can’t go straight to the fighting platform that turn.
Weapons and equipment:
- 4 volcano cannons
- 4 twin-linked Vulcan mega bolters with AA mount
- 4 twin-linked battle cannons
- 8 basilisk cannons
- 8 twin-linked lascannons

Special rules:
Surprise arrival: the Zeus drop pod will always start in reserves and deepstrikes (it does not scatter).
Control tower: the Zeus grants 4 additional strategic assets a turn.
hope you like it .

Did you happen to get your inspiration from the box art in the bastion kit? The one that has a building arriving like a drop pod?

While I think you're on the right path with saying that there is some kind of drop pod for the IG, I doubt you have any idea how ridiculouslly overpowered this thing is. I mean, these stats would fit better for an Imperial Navy frigate entering the atmospher to provide heavy air support.

So good idea. Sucky implementation.

To paraphrase the old VDR, model first then stats...so lets see this monster!

If it actually look big enough to carry a dozen or more titans I might approve of it

Ok, so it can hold 500 infantry units and has 20 structure points and costs 9500 points. The stormlord can hold 40 infantry units and has 3 structure points and is 500 points.

Maths not make sense! Not to mention all the other stuff this thing can do.

Not to mention I don't think anyone in the world has that many models except possibly Hugh Hefner.

The IG do use massive troop landers, but not on front line combat service. Such landers are used well behind enemy lines and would be incapable of hovering around the battlefield providing fire support. Most appear to be capable of landing between 100-200 soldiers at a time and they are quite large, regular landers.

Edited for stupidity.

You do know that the IG does have what amounts to a Drop Pod, right?

It can hold a full squad's worth of troopers, but it isn't used often simply because it exposes the Navy vessels deploying them to all kinds of hell.

They first were mentioned within the Eisenhorn books, but they did get a shout-out within Planetstrike(p.47 the Cadian XIV Orbital Assault insert).

In the Eisenhorn books they were described as "looking vaguely scarab-like, matte-black" and seemingly the forward section of it would dig into the ground and then 'stick out' horizontally with a rear ramp allowing the troops to deploy and use the pod as cover and a forward command post, rather than landing vertical and opening itself up to incoming fire like the Astartes variant.

Well yeah, I'm not denying that the IG has some kind of large scale drop pod for purpouses of planetary invasion, but I'm saying that THESE stats are really not the best for approximating a large drop pod/ship.

They feel more like a frigates stats.

Back before I settled on a theme for my IG I made and created a cast for individual IG drop pods. I was going to make terrain features which was some cratered area terrain with several of these pods sticking out to make it look like the army had just dropped in from orbit

That sounds ridiculouslly awesome....I'd imagine anyone with Elysians would want to get in on that. Hell, I want some, and I play vanilla Guard!

Because, for all intents and purposes, that's what those "castles" in the background of the Imperial Guard boxed sets are.

I can see what this guy's trying to do, but it definitely isn't something we need to see in 40k.

Drop Pods for squads, sure.
Rules for 'Overwatch'/'Fire Support' from a Cruiser/Frigate in geosynchronous orbit? Sure!

But the bulk landers are not something that ever come down during an actual battle. They've got light landers which carry maybe a regiment, tops, and are heavily armoured/armed and are basically used to 'secure a beachhead'. Those I could maybe see in Apocalypse.

Huh, you have a point, Kan.

But yeah, I can't see these ever being used in a real game...I mean, an Emperor Titan is 4000 points. These things cost twice as much, are as tough, and have roughly equivlanent firepower....so yeah.

The idea came from the fold out poster page in the apoc book. There is also two on the cover of the IG codex. PS. can cant find a single pic of them, if anyone finds one please post it.

I might see if I can make one up and post it online. It was only a really simple design though as I was just testing out my mould making skills at the time.

That's how the Orbital Marines get around in Halo, and they're basically Elysians. I thought it was so cool the first time I saw them being dropped in, and I immediately thought of the Elysians.
