After playing fantasy for the better part of the past 2 years, I have finally decided to get back into the the game of 40lk to mix things up a bit, as well as the continuous nagging from my mates as they are tired of only playing fantasy with me, which I cant fault them for not wanting to as we all need a break from it currently at my store. Now after going through the the GW site and the forum, I have already decided not to go Marines (for obvious reason's ), the Grey Knights (since they already look and sound ridiculous but then again they are marines and it's GW pulling its usual shenanigans so no surprises there ), and the IG since there is already quite a few at my store. At first I didn't expect to find an army to play as, however I found a box hidden behind the stacks of Blood Angel Death Company ( since they are the most popular at my store ), and I discoverd that it was a squad of Sister's of Battle. After looking at there codex, I liked the fluff and the uniqness the army compared to others, for it wasn't as powerful as the poster boy Marines but had some advantages over the IG. Overall, it was an Army that was somewhere in-between Marines and the IG, which is something that appelled to me so without as well as the fact who doesn't like the idea of a bunch of fanatical women crusading and cleansing the galaxy with faith and fire , so without hesitation I bought the WH Codex , as well as the Squad of Battle Sisters along w/a Cannoness model. I'm just looking for some advice and tactics from any veteran Sisters of Battle players on how effective they can be compared to the other armies in this editon, what units are worth taking and which ones are not, and what army lists had you had success in running. The usual noob question's that any new 40k player would ask.

They aren't very effective.
Mind you, Sisters can still win games, but then so can Necrons.
Generally speaking, there's two current ideas on how to build a proper Sisters army-- one is to spam immolators, which I disagree with (finding immolators to be overpriced and easy to destroy), the other one is the one I prefer, which is to have a solid force of mechanized Battle Sisters supported by three Exorcists and a unit or two of Seraphim and a Jump Pack Canoness, or in lieu of the Seraphim a Celestian retinue to the Canoness without jump pack in their own transport.

I run 4 Immolators with squads, 2-3 battle squads in rhinos, 2 exorcists and a 4 heavy bolter Ret squad. I sometimes run a flying nun too.
Problem with sisters is going to be availability and cost. The line has been pulled and most stuff you will want to use ebay to find to keep costs down. My sisters army is valued high enough that I took a seperate insurance policy out for it and my other armies.
Good Luck
Stuff to look for when beginning...
2 squads of 10 battle sisters.... 2 rhinos for them
exorcists
melta sisters...you will need these in different squads and only come in a blister.
heavy flamer sisters
immolator kits... even if you want these for rhinos. they come with so many extras it is wurth it.

Whats a good loadout for a sisters squad? I have 2 squads with 2 flamers per squad. (got them in a lot off ebay) fluff wise its a great fit purifying flames! But i feel i should swap atleast 1 for a melta. just figured since I am in the same boat as the op i figured i would ask.

For combinations of wargear:
Combiflamer - Flamer - Heavy Flamer
-- Pure anti-infantry . Rather risky if you know your metagame has a lot of mechanization.
Combiflamer - Heavy Flamer - Melta
-- A bit less risky, at the risk of having less anti-infantry. Still gives the squad a chance to bust transports and walkers though, so is definitely a more balanced choice.
Combimelta - Heavy Flamer - Melta
-- The combimelta is usually regarded as overpriced and a bit risky for its price, but it does let you keep the heavy flamer over the build below.
Combiflamer - Melta - Melta
-- Another balanced build, usually you won't get more than one flamer burst before an assault anyway and with it not requiring an BS test the combiflamer is okay for its price. When dealing with Guard and other armour-heavy armies, this is definitely the way to go.
All squads should have the Book of St. Lucius and a Veteran Sister Superior. Usually a combiweapon is best on the VSS.

As a side note, Is the boxset of the sisters actually available anywhere anymore? And does anyone know why it was pulled in the first place, considering there isn't an imminent replacement on the horizon (as far as I know?)
I know I'm probably a minority in this, but I actually quite liked the models, I thought there were some nice sculpts in that range.

A new Sisters codex, possibly accompanied by plastic figures, is thought to be slightly off the edge of the release radar.
Which means a year to 18 months away.

Depends, I heard rumors of a late year (nov/dec) release myself, with GK being in march, necrons in aug. Mind you, this might be too optimistic, but if it's only GK and Nec this year that means it'd be a VERY light year for 40k.

The point is a new codex may arrive within 12 months, accompanied by plastic models, so it might be a bad idea to rush and buy a lot of the metal models.
