2 Questions I have.

If I shoot a template weapon a unit that is in combat my skaven slaves and I hit my slaves with the template as well do I still roll the dice 1-3 hits friend 4-6 hits foe for each slave my template covers?

If I shoot say my ratling gun into a unit locked into combat with my slaves and they have a 2 handed weapon and a shield do they get the extra armor save from the shield? Kinda torn on this realistically they would have their 2handed weapon out fighting my slaves but their shields would probably be on their back giving them some protection.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

1) No. The FAQ removes that line from the Skavenslave entry. When shooting into a combat involving slaves, you hit what you hit now; there is no randomization...

UNLESS you are using Poisoned Wind Globadiers, whose entry still says that you randomize.

2) IIRC, the answer is no, they don't. Now, this isn't an issue for the slaves themselves as their only weapon options are all 1H weapons, but for things like Empire Greatswords or the like, I believe once they're locked in CC they no longer get the benefit of a shield. I'm afraid I'm not 100% sure on that one though.

Had their weapon options been FAQed? My book is showing spears as an option.

Spears are an option, but spears are also one handed weapons, so you can still use a shield with them.

Yep. Warhammer spears are 4-6ft. Pikes are 10-20ft.

...though you should never take shields and spears on the same slaves. 6+ armour for .5pts? No thanks.

I generally leave my slaves naked, but frankly if I was to go with either upgrade I'd do shields. Same cost, but saving 1/6 of my models (more if they enemy is S3 or less) through parry is worth more than 5 more WS2 S3 attacks. Spears are okay on Bell pushing Clan Rats, since they will spend more of their time in combat anyway, though even then I generally just use hand weapon/shield.

If your slaves are in bus-formation, shields are definately the way to go. In Horde, with, say, Death Frenzy or Bless with Filth, however...

And slings are pretty fun. Killed a Bloodcrusher with a rock. Had to kill the slave who made the shot though. Don't want to let that sort of thing go to his head.

A unit of about 25 slaves in my army managed to kill a troll -first they shot it then when it charged they stood and shot then they struck first. i like to "slavebomb" my foes-line up as many ranks as you can get and let em rip. when they break everything in D6 inches takes D3 + the number of ranks S3 hits. heh heh heh

Me and some friends did some Mathhammer; 600pts of slaves can take down 500pts of Bloodthirster.

...If you read the "Cornered Rats" by the RAW before the FaQ came out (conga-line of doom, slavepedo, etc.), you only needed 200pts of slaves, I believe.

Yeah, and that unit is "Only" 48" deep.

I guess you would deploy sideways, and walk sideways towards the enemy, at 2.5" per turn.
Of course, knowing my luck, I'd make my leadership 5 steadfast check.

Well, to be fair, you'd have zero ranks (one wide) as well. So you'd need Insane Courage! or, hey, you could say you're still Steadfast at Ld2, if you want to stay positive.

The Mathhammer battle took place in the ether, of course. Where models float in an endless void, only to suddenly find themselves in highly unlikely and hypothetical combats.
