i posted this in the introduction forum but realized it should be somewhere like here. I just ordered the island of blood with a friend because i want to start playing warhammer and it seemed like a good place to start. I wish to know as much as i can before it gets here so i have been reading the rule book and army book and i am wondering the rules of the poison wind mortar? i know it has the same rules as a stone thrower, but i cant find it anywhere in the army book. i have read that units in the center are wounded on 4+ and every one else 5+ but where are people getting these rules?? what is the point cost is it a core choice or is it attached to clanrats? im really sorry about this long silly question but i have searched google and cant find what im looking for. thank you for your time.

Ps. i am such a noob so sorry if its right in my face.

Skaven army book page. 63 and 102 should solve both problems.

Of course, you might own the old version of the army book in which case you need to buy the new one...

If I use -><- I'm not mocking you, it's a reflex from using the " silly" icon on every other forum.
However, if I use this -><- I might just mock you.

which gets even weirder, seeing how you americans tend to use [the F-word] more often in various meanings than a smurf would use "smurf".

Nearly a quote except the censorship.

It happens, dont worry

The new book is pretty damn nice. You will drool at Warlock engineers and their pretty, shiny explosive things like the Doom rocket*

*one of my favourite items, since it shows how well the binomial approximation to the normal distribution works. To whit, the more dice you roll the MORE accurate the doom rocket becomes

Yeah poson wind mortars good. Place small round temple anywhere within range, scatter it artillery dice far and any model under center is wounded of 4+, else on 5+ and no armour saves. I was in a 500 point tourney with it, shot it at 28 empire halberdier with a light wizard, killed 7 and they panicked and ran off the board. =)

Quantity might beat quality but not for me.

Even better -it can use the LOS of the parent unit, from memory, meaning you can hide it quite effectively!

And move and fire.
Advance and fire, then back away firing is a huge advantage in the game of increased charge ranges.

The line of sight rule means that while it is within 3" of the parent unit it can use their line of sight, but if the mortar cant see the target itself (e.g. is behind parent) then the shot scatters double the roll on the artillery dice.

Quantity might beat quality but not for me.

I was under the impression that the double scatter was for indirect firing (i.e., no LoS to the target at all).

The Skaven weapon teams have their own special rule in this regard.
