People seem to be up on some kind of 6th Edition hoo haa. But I don't think it's the time. 4th Edition had a short life span because it was broken. Not at first mind you but Eldar broke it, Like they do most editions. Triple Holo silliness, Tripple mono silliness, and the Tau air castle. If you remember these things then you know what I'm talking about. For all of it's major flaws, 4th was great fun, broken but fun. 5th fixed most of what was wrong with 4th, A drastic cut in min maxing, (there was a time when people only to two min sized troop units like old fantasy) and Victory points (Good luck peeling the 600+ points for triple mono or Nid zilla, in 4th).

5th Edition gave us actual balanced missions (remember meat grinder?) and pretty much did everything better than 4th. Now for some reasons to not want 6th

1. The nerf bat. 6th will kill what ever seems to be OP. Look for th top two armies to weep and vow never to play again.

2. To soon. They arn't even half way done updating armies. I hope there arnt any 3rd edition codexes left. as is over half the range would be two editions behind. Even if we get Necrons and sisters and Eldar, we'd still have Chaos, Tau, DA, BA, Orks, Daemons, two editions behind...6 armies.

3. It all starts over. The first codex they will release will be SM followed by what ever xenos sold the best in the last edition (read Tyranids for 4th to 5th) OnG for Fantasy. Tyranids needed a few erratas to be ok, it was a newer codex and didn't need a new book. They just sold the best so got rushed out.

4. Author. Who will write the book? Mat Ward? The Fantasy 8th edition guys? Me? The potential for a major screw up is possible. we may end up with random movement and charge ranges, or ranks.

5th is the funnest 40k has been, with out the ott silliness of 2nd edition (eldar broke that too). There are no MAJOR flaws. Don't rush GW into messing up a good thing

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

On moon miranda.

GW's games generally get new editions every 4-6 years. 6E in 2012 fits right in with that even if we all feel its a bit early. 8E fantasy came out a little less than 4 years after 7th.

Yes, it's probably silly to introduce a new edition in 2012 from a gaming standpoint, especially as they certainly aren't going to get everything updated from 3rd and 4th edition by then, but that hasn't stopped them from doing it in the past.

That said, I'm in no hurry for 6th edition.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

although I like where 5th edition is, and would like for it to remain where it is until all the current books have been updated, the recent rumours indicating 2012 seems roughly accurate to past trends.

That being said, 6th edition can only mean growth for the game (if 5th was seen as fixing 4th's problems, why cant 6th be seen as better than 5th?), and all the interesting things that entails.

No don't you see the Mayans predicted this thousands of years ago. 6th edition is that cataylist for the Apocolypse!

I'm fine with 5th edition as it stands right now, though that's not to say that it's perfect. Overall, I'd like to see new codices for the Necrons and Tau before 6th hits, but other than that most of the armies that really need Codices have been covered, especially with the recent FAQ update to Dark Angels and Black Templars.

Or that GW wants to make that extra cash before the apocalypse so they can finish their bunker to survive doomsday .

But OT : I personally would love to have a "Advanced 40k rule set " or a master level or somesuch, with optional rules and maybe even a semi-official VDR section, I guess I kinda long for the early days of GW when it seemed more open and less tournament focused...but I guess thats just me.

I think it is a bit early to overhaul a ruleset that has not yet even been fully supported yet with all its constitutent parts, but I guess aslong as the marine codex gets a update with the 6th ed. release, GW will be secure. I know sour grapes.

@Soo'Vah'Cha
Your not the only one who longs for fun days of 40k the return of whacky and the slight recession of Grimdark.

TBH with everyone talking about GW HAVING to update the dex'es before new edition, Dark eldar had to sit through 3 editions before they received a proper update, I think crons and sisters are the only ones who are more than 1 edition behind atm and that can easily be fixed in the next year before 6th ed hits, Crons are rumored as the next re-release anyway.
