Hey guys. I have posted a few times here, but I am relatively new. Allow me to cut straight to the chase, I need help making a model. I have a Huge Apoc game coming up in July, I am orks, opponent is IG. We are doing a "Godzilla" style battle in which I am usiing all of my orks and their big monsters to destroy the city he is occupying. Have a Stompa and a Gargantuan Squiggoth that looks like Godzilla. I wanted a flier and thought that I could do a saucer and continue the movie monster sci fi theme. The problem I run into is that my work on the saucer has hit a block. I am posting a picture to give you a rough idea. I need to figure out how to do the slanted sides of the saucer as well as the areas on the flat part (top and bottom respectively). I have the cockpit added on already and just need to come up withy the internal part, but it is the outside that is alluding me. I don't know what to do about the slanted and curved outer rim. Hope someone can help.

It's still Orkish, right?
Take a look at the GW Deffrolla conversion kit.
Look at all the plates and things just bolted onto it.
Add spiky bits and killin' gubbins and buzzsaws and spinny deff laza's and so on.
A Mek wouldn't stop once it's a basic saucer. He'd make it "better".

As for the inside, I'd go with a crazy-looking Mek of some sort, goggles and a deranged grin, and more levers than he could ever pull. For extra credit, try to paint him in such a way that the underside of his face looks like there's a glow coming up, like the light from a dashboard on a person's face in a car at night, or like Tony's face here: http://www.hishgraphics.com/blog/images/ironman01.jpg (hell, maybe even a little HUD on the 'glass' too!)

Yeah, now you have the basic shape, glue plasticard to it (be sure to choose a glue that will hold both the pink foam and plasticard), then cover any gaps with more random shaped plasticard. Some detaily bits, e.g. vents, would also be good. Then line all the edges with rivets.

It's off to a great start, now you just need to load it up with gubbins and whatsits.

It need some sort out massive exhausts on it, and idea that it countinuly spins around gaining kinetic energy just warbling around the battle field dakkering everything, cool concept but an ork flying saucer would defintely be wobbly in the air!

Should be an easy battle then. You're patterning your bad guy off of a wimp. Might as well 'fight' against a Richard Simmons doll. It'd be more challenging that that Godzilla hack...

Yeah, my thought was to make it covered in plasticard armor plates, but what glue can I use that will hold both and not take ages to dry? Never really thouight about blades on the edge where the two curved areas meet. Yeah, the cockpit and stuff I already knew what I was going to do, it was more the main body that I was having a problem with. As for propulsion I plan on strapping loads of missles to the under side and have them all pointing one direction. They will have a smoke effect added that will make it look like it is spinning. I think if I cut the plasticard into small panels and place them all over the flat areas and then make them look riveted and "welded" with green stuff, that should work out pretty well. I may have to try some "salt bending" to get the plasticard to curve for the outside edges. I will keep everyone updated as I progress.

Plenty of armour plates, pipework, etc as well as rocket engines, guns, perhaps some cranes etc.

I don't know, my Mecha Waaaghzilla is coming along really well. Between him and the Stompah, they should make a wonderful mess of the I.G. and the city they plan on destroying.

Was also thinking of having one of those cheezy 1950's radar dish guns under it to count as the Lifta Droppa.

Add two more heads and make him a Mecha Waaaghidorah and I can personally guarantee you a win. Not to mention FAR MORE wanton destruction of the puny city you'll attack. Heck, I would actually be surprised if the I.G. even show up at all. Hey, your game, your call. If you want a sissy representing your Orks, that's cool. Pink looks good with green.

Alright, now your just intentionally being a pain. I tell you what, if I have time once I am finished with the sheer number of other stuff I have to put together, I will work on a King Gidorka model.

Thank you very much Ginger. So fr you are the only person to help me in any way.
And btw, I know who King Gidorah is, and Mothra, and the Smog Monster, King Kong. I am very much aware of the whole Kaiju thing. I wanted to do something that was a little more traditional.

While this isn['t so much a suggestion for the sides like you originally asked, a great touch that would really 'up' the b-movie, campy sci-fi feel would be some spindly legs with landing gear. Like, three of them. Just a thought.

Also, I can't tell from the pic, but most pink and blue insulation board has a very thin layer of clear film on it. Make sure you sand or peel that off (if it's there) or it will give you fits when you try to glue.

No problem it will probably take a couple of coats of p.v.a, plus the more coats you do would give it a nice effect anyway

A hot glue gun may work well for sticking the pink foam and plasticard together - but do some tests with offcuts first.

*playes sci-fir whistling alien music* ooo eeee ooooooo

Anyhoo I would try using a glue gun maybe...or the superglue and slap plasticard plats on it at random angles...don't forget to layer it up, can't wait to see some progress...and your squig-godzilla

Finally, some positive input from you. Yeah I was actually looking at some of the pics from War of the Worlds and other B movies, and I think a set of 3 spindle spider legs dangling off the bottom for landing gear would work very well.
I did sand the entire model after I cut the foam, just to make sure that there wasn't anything like that. Thank you for the advice.

And Nightbringer, the only reason I say that was that I was looking for advice on how to make the plates stick and look less junky. I think I will try and do I tiny targetting HUD on the glass bubble. Gonna use the spiked extras from my Stompah as an attachment around the ring almost like the vehicles from "The Incredibles".

Almost done with the top armor plates and the bottom. Will post a picture when I get them glued on. I found if I apply a very miniscule, thin layer of white glue, it dries faster and holds them on a little better.

Okay the left is the bottom of the saucer and the right is the top. Figured I'd start with the basics and work to the sides. The plates are nothing more than varying thickness plasticard. I plan on putting scratches and rivets on them. I have started the bubble dome for the cockpit. Think is am gonna put the Zzap gun mounted on top in front of the cockpit and the Lifta-Droppa mounted on an arm on the bottom. May work on the side plates tomorrow. That may require some salt bending to get them to fit the curve.
