Subject: A couple of Eldar questions

First I'm making some War Walkers. Got a couple of questions as I know there is a couple eldar players on here.
I'm thinking about running between 3 and 9 war walkers and outflanking them with two aurtaurchs or starting them on the board with a farseer for guide/doom goodness.
Is this feasible or any good? Would this be considered cheesy?
Next question. I know scatter lasers are the internet list gun of choice but I'm really stuck on how to equip them. I'm not honestly concerned with needing ap 2 or 3 so all that mess is out. I'm on the fence with either scatter lasers or shuriken cannons.
Lasers strength 6, range 36, shots 4
Cannons strength 6, range 24, shots 3
So basically the laser has 12 inches more range and 1 more shot which is 6 more shots per squad. It's pretty obvious the scatter lasers are better but then you count in the points... It's 20 more points per walker. If I run 9 that's an extra 180 points that I'm adding to units that are no harder to kill than their counter parts. 180 points is another troop in a serpent or fire dragons in a serpent or a jet-lock squad. So what is your thoughts? I'm kinda under the impression that if I run 9 the Cannons will be better to add more to the army. If I run 3 I should go with lasers though.
Lastly does anyone else think that eldar warwalkers look like the zentraedi walkers from robotech?

The range is a life saver.
War Walkers can outflank, and I use them 9-10 to outflank near my own deployment zone to destroy what ever has charged into it to eat my squishy T3 units.
The War Walkers come in and wreck whatever infantry is there.
However, this can be done all over the board so why does the extra 12 inches on the guns matter?
Answer: Fragile War Walkers.
If you outflank them near the back of the enemy line and waste a unit, chances are likely they will have another unit that can deal out some War Walker killing pain with a quickness.
However, if you play them, let's say conservatively offensive, or aggressively defensive and keep them behind your lines, they will be out of range of more guns than if you drop them in their backfield.
I guess it depends if you want to use them for more than one turn effectively.

I've been running scatter lasers on mine, the odd weapon downgraded to a shurican cannon if i need a handful of points.
Although with my personnal preference being scatter lasers on everything... I'm considering adding some starcannons as i know alot of people will be starting GK armies, which will mix up my local meta rather alot.
Other than that EML's are a decent chioce, but i've done simple maths in the past and the scatter lasers eek it out over infantry and light vehicles.

why do they all have to be armed the same. You could have 1 unit with scatter lasers and 2 with shuirken cannons., hopefully screening the ones with scatter lasers.

You'll find this is a "looks better on paper" tactic. You are blowing ~ 680 point to do this while eating up all your HQ and Heavy slots. This means you don't have any Farseer powers and no runes of warding.
It's far from cheese, you'll actually find that it isn't a goo investment to outflank shoot 3 units... because that's all your get to shoot before your Walkers get mauled by the simplest bolter fire.

You can gain cover for walkers from behind a skimmer and still be able to shoot over the top, outflanking isn't the only option.
And of course, wanting to outflank is reliant on the enemy army, some are a definate no-no, other... why not?
This is where the greater range of the scatter laser comes in, meaning most of the time you can stay about 30" away and might even get cover saves if there is suitable terrain.
3 Walkers, in cover, is surprisinly durable. More durable than they look on paper. Yea ok... fire 12+ missiles at them and they are going down, even if in cover, but thats 12+ missiles thats not going at all your serpents, who pushed forwards when all the walkers arrived, and the walkers most likely wrecked a light squadren or took out an important troops choice.

I don't want to take farseers. I understand they are the better HQ choice. Is this a personal gimp?... Yes. I have a DKoK IG army to play competitively with I am just building the eldar because I like them. So I have kind of a theme in mind. But I don't want the army to loose every single game either. I don't want this to be an army that everything in the list is maximum destruction point for point but nor do I want it to be a fluff kitten that I can't even win with if I tried.
I am not opposed to mixing weapons. Would you care go give me an example of a load out and why you would take it. I generally assign a purpose to every unit in my army and have them play to that purpose or strength. While they more versitile with missiles and scatter the price on the walker goes up considerable and against vehicles the laser will be a burden and against termies the missile will be a burden and I think generally this would hinder my own ability to pick targets as I could do multiple things at different targets weaker than I could pick one target and decimate it.
I should have clarified that in my first post. So don't take that unit cuz it sux does not help me at all. Because I AM taking at least 1 Autarch and I AM taking at least 3 war walkers. I like them. I was just wondering what was the more feasible gun load out and if it were an OK tactic to come in turn 2 outflanking three units capable of taking out light transports and infantry. Also I understand that different battles/terrain/armies are unfavorable for a lot of out flankers. I'm just looking for advice on the units I have chose to take and their payloads. If you can help me with this that would be great.

I typically outflank with a squadron of three Scatter Laser walkers. I'm still trying to pair them up with a Guide-seer, but thanks to the short range of guide and the random nature of outflank, it's hard to pull off. I don't recommend 6 or 9 simply because other Eldar heavy choices (primarily Prisms but also Falcons and potentially Wraithlords) are outstanding and deserve to be in your army. Lasers are preferable to Cannons for the reasons mentioned above - once you show up you're a huge threat and you have flimsy armor. An extra 12 inches of range vastly increases the area that you can safely deploy to.
And yes, they look suspiciously like the Zentraedi Battle Pods, especially with the small, useless "sticks" jutting from their lower torsos where Pod guns would be. If they fought Tau I would expect Roy Fokker to come wandering onto the table.
