I came into 40k because my WARMACHINE buddy wanted to play his new IG army 2 summers ago. I had a Necron army collecting dust, and WARMACHINE was changing to MkII, so we started playing 40k. Necrons got boring, so I began collecting Space Marines. Sold the Necrons and found I needed a second army to wargame against on the kitchen table. So Eldar became my second army. Then I thought Tau was cool, and I got them. I now have 13,000 points of Sm, 10,000 of Eldar, and 5,000 of Tau.

I like having a big army fully painted in one scheme for Apoc games. I chose the Imperial Fist logo because I liked it.

Now the point of my thread.

Just because I painted my army a certain way, with certain decals, does not mean I have to play out of the SM Codex.

From this point on I declare my freedom from the shackles of the Space Marine Codex. I declare my right to play a Blood Angels list if I want.

I declare that I can buy and build and play a Storm Raven in the color scheme of Imperial Fists, and use the Grey Knight Codex to create my list if I dang well feel like it.

Further, if I play people that like Forge World models, then I can play Red Scorpians and put an Apothecary in place of the Tac Squad Sergeant at no cost!

Thank You, and God Bless America.

Fine with me, I always thought that if you have the right models you can play the right army, no matter what they look like.

The trend is certainly moving to support you. I've had a few stores not allow playing out of different codices, but most are fine with it as long as everythign is WYSIWYG.

It'll be like the proliferation of special characters in 4th and 5th edition, though. Some people will cling to the old taboo long after it's gone most places.

Isn't "counts as" wonderful?

Go for it. I have my own homebrew chapter that I could say uses any rules I want. People often tell me I would be better off no playing C:SM. But I like playing C:SM, so I do.

Point is, play the way that you want. Don't worry about people who would have you play their way - you don't have to play with them.

One of the more pleasant surprises for me in this hobby was realizing that with a DIY chapter nobody could really bust my chops for using another codex. Who is going to tell me that my Star Owls can't use the SW codex?

BTW, if anybody wants to use a known chapter and still use any book they want, use Blood Ravens. By fluff, they do not know their primarch and thus you can't deny them the use of any book (including chaos!)

Ah, the counts-as revelation. I remember it well. "Wait a minute. What stops me from using these space marines as OTHER SPACE MARINES?!"

In the olden days, we used pennies for cultists and boxes for Rhinos.

This isn't really new.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

As long as your army has proper models to represent a unit, than there shouldn't an issue in confusion.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

This. Thinking outside the box with space marines is anyone's right. Just... if you want to go with blood angels then that's your problem. If I had 13000pts of yellow SM, I'd give them power wrenches and use the chaos dex.

Runnin up on ya.

I really regret having blue marines now.... :(

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

I have no problem with this, I mean I run my nob biker list as thunderwolf calvary, well I did, now it is going to be paladins, just have to rebase them is all.

Make sure what your running is compatable with SW/BA before you jump the bandwagon. If you are using strong Codex units (Null zone libbys, TH/SS Termies, Vulkan or Lysander, ect) then switching might not be to benificial.

Considering you have 13,000pts of SM (I assume pretty varied, and not just 65 tactical squads) then I am sure you can play all the SM codexes pretty easily.

counts-as FTW!
in all seriousness, its up to the player to decide on how they want to play their army, and so long as its made known to the opposing player, feel free to use any codex you like!
(a bit of WYSIWYG is always nice tho)

WYSIWYG takes on new meaning once your vision starts to degrade. I have to use reading glasses now.

WYSIWYG?? Heck I can't see anything anyway.

This is dumb that you try to use stuff like this is dumb should point out that. It is not intellegent and doesnt work because it looks reaterded.

Is this post ironic? I'm not sure. Is it bad that I can't tell?

Edit: well, looking at other posts by the writer, it seems that the spelling, syntax, and overall terse nature are consistent with other posts. I'm not sure if the content is meant to be taken seriously. Of what it's saying if it is.

You should also take note that being rude to users is against the forum rules. Secondly, use of the word slowed in its slang sense is strongly deprecated and will lead to moderation.

I thought this was old news? How do tourneys feel about "Counts as"? From what I can tell on dakka, most of the local tourneys allow it.
