Lets face it - paint isn't cheap. Even when it is, it's sometimes hard to find locally. Ranges can be limited and sometimes your local store will need to put a hefty markup on it. In my area, I don't have to worry about that, as there are none. GW has monopoly, and the town is awash with Revell enamel.

Joy.

Shopping online can be a bit iffy, especially with paint. Colour swatches can be a dodgy affair at the best of times. Postage rates vary and again, paint can get pricey. Enter FILS model supplies. http://www.filsmodels.com/catalog/

The site is well laid out, though thier range is a tad sparsae for anything other than paint and mediums. That said, the prices are hard to beat. Friday morning saw me online filling my boots. I loaded the basket with allsorts of mediums and paints. The total came to around £108. Not a small order. Postage was reasonable - for all the junk I was buying, the rate was £4.95. Much better than one Geek/Gift Postage counts as profit website that shall remain nameless. Even better, the orders are processed through sagepay, which is great if anything goes wrong. It's a lot easier to get your money back with the aid of your bank with a sagepay invoice than it is to spend hours dicking around with paypal. I ordered up, paid and said goodbye to my money, eagerly awaiting delivery day.

Delivery is stated as taking no more than 5 days including despatch, with order confirmations and tracking available. Here's where it gets a bit grim. Over the weekend I recieved my sagepay invoice advising the money had been debited. Hunky Dory. I didn't recieve an order confirmation from the supplier until yesterday. I was lucky enough to pick up a local commission on monday, so could really do with the paint to get started, Feeling a bit irked, I sent an email asking when the order was actually processed, and whether it had been shipped and if so, when, as I don't want to be sitting on someone's minis if I can't do any work on them.

The post has come and gone again today, which is pushing it a little bit. In the last 20 minutes, I've recieved an email advising that they think the order has gone, but are not sure. They expect I'll recieve it "soon"(tm).

Mega. You've got over a hundred quid of my money and you can't tell me if my order has gone.

I have advised that if the order has not arrived by tomorrow, which is one week/5wd as per the shipping blurb, then I will instigate the process of late/missing order tomfoolery, however if the service continues to be flaky, it's off to the bank to arrange indemnity on the payment.

Conclusion: On the face of it, great store, good range if you're a vallejo nut. Decent prices and excellent shipping rates. I may be tempted to order again if the package shows up in good condition and has a reasonable datestamp on it, as I'm quite prepared to put it down to a bit of a hiccup. What does unsettle me however is the slightly lacklustre approach to customer service.

Overall? 3 camels and a turnip.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

6 working days is too early to instigate late/missing post. Depending on what company they sent the order with it can be delayed for all sorts of reasons.

It is poor that they could not tell you when/if the order was sent out however.

That's the main reason I've got the hump. Just the flakiness

--------------------------------------
DELIVERY
Stock permitting, all orders are usually despatched within 1 working day of being accepted to arrive with UK customers the following working day.

In the event that an item is temporarily out of stock, we will notify you of the delay and despatch it as soon as it arrives.
---------------------------------------

If they could just tell me when the order was processed, then I wouldn't be so irate. If it was only processed yesterday. then fair enough, as per thier terms. But if they can't even tell when they processed, then it's a bit dire.

If they could just say "yes! we processed it yesterday!", then I can happily wait another 5WD.

I've had a job or two in procurement for manufacturers, so I tend to get arsy when people can't stick to thier terms.

Me = Anal.

Yeah, not being able to come up with a date is pretty crap.

The saga continues. The package it turns out, was sent at the start of the week, the chap got back to me with a tracker number. 1st class recorded, so it should have arrived around wed/thursday latest. Post has been and gone again today and still nothing.

Popped on to the royal mail website, and they advise they cannot track until an item has been received, which is fair enough really, but it could at least show some parity with the post office site, which advises the package has been processed but not delivered as yet.

Quite frustrating as I can't log a late parcel until 15 days after despatch!

*groan*

Sent an email to the chap thanking him for his help, even if it was a little higgledy piggledy, he did stick to his terms.

I feel like most of the time its the people shipping the box that makes it take fore ever to arrive. UPS, Fedex, and other shipping companies seem to never get there crap straight.

I'm finding it hard to justify being hacked off. I've never had a late parcel before, so royal mail have done me good. Just frustrating to be ready to start and not be able to.

Luckily I've allowed myself plenty of time to finish the job.

EDIT.

Starting to doubt this as still no paint order. =/

Considering making another order for next day delivery somewhere else, but not only does that mean I'll have ordered double (unable to recoup the cost fo the first unless item is still undelivered after the weekend), it means I'll be spending considereably more due to the volume of stuff I ordered. If I order again, it's looking at at least £170 without overnight. Which, totalled with the first order nearly wipes out my charge for the job. =/
Even then it's still got to be worked on. Luckily the customer is a little star and understands the problems I'm having.

Great first commission.

EDIT 2.

Supplier has emailed this morning. He's resending the order on an overnight if it doesn't arrive by friday. What a Gent!
