hey everybody

so on saturday im going to be playing a 2k point game with my orcs n goblins, so far Ive played about 5 games and been successful, Ive played against Woc 4 times with 2 different people, one being the store manaager from my local games workshop store. I also played against daemons of chaos last sunday and won all of these games were at 1500 pts.

but now a new challenge has been made, Im going to play my friend who runs a lizardmen army that I believe is going to be very magic heavy, and heres the kicker, its going to be at 2k pts now I realize to most here on the dakka 2k pts is the norm, but to me its a whole new ball game, lords alot more points to manage, and especially against an army ive never faced.

what are some good things to watch out for when fighting against lizardmen with OnG? and are there any good counters or tactics that would help against fighting them?

Good counters?

Pumpwagons are awesome, as they will get rid of skinks (which he will have lots of) and are cheap. S5 is about all you need, potentially no armour saves on 1 if you have the points

Mangler Squigs will again deal with his big blocks OR his skirmishers, etc.

Great Shamans using Hand to push your night gobbos to 1" away, so you are g'teed to get fanatics through his blocks, is a golden combination. Or to teleport manglers into his lines

Watch out for chameleon skinks taking out your war machines. they average 1 wm a turn per unit of 10, and that can be deadly.

Trolls are awesome as well. Again, hand can be used to throw them forwards.

The #1 problem I have with lizards is salamanders.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Salamanders are nasty, however the main thing O&G bring is target saturation. The trend in 8th so far has been to reduce number of units (horde / SA rules, step up and points denial mainly), and O&G remind you why you need those many units that can shoot different targets.

At 2k dont go mad, maybe 3 pump wagons, couple of doom divers (to start annoyin g the Slann bunker or stegs, etc) and mangla squigs. Trolls are very good as they are resilient and at I1 strike at the same time as saurus.

Too bad I dont have any mangler squigs or pump wagons , Im going to write a list today, but first I'll put up a list of what I do have just to help you guys....help me haha. our store is pretty flexible when it comes to wysiwyg, so my orc boys can be used with any weapons as long as I just let my opponent know ahead of time, something else I often do is use my river troll models as regular trolls, so trolls could go either way.

I got
Lords/heroes

1 orc bigboss/lord on boar
3 orc models on foot that can be used as bigboss/lord/blackorc
3 orcs shamans/great/savage shaman on foot
2 orc shaman/great/savage shaman/wurzagg on boar
3 goblin shamans

Core

56 orc boys (may even be possible to use these as savage orcs but it may be a little iffy)
60 night goblins (I have 3 fanatics)
20 spider riders (thanks to bfsp)

Special

10 orc boar boyz
1 orc boar chariot
6 trolls/river trolls/ stone trolls

Rare

6 river trolls/ stone trolls/ trolls
2 Doom divers
1 arachnarok spider

thats everything I got guys, Im sorry if my list is a little tough to read, but there it is. Im going to make a list today, and hopefully have it posted up for you guys to check out, would it be alright if I put the list on here? or do I need to make a new thread with my list?

Looks like you have a good mix for taking on lizardmen.

Take
Warboss on boar
BSB on boar
1 level 1 night goblin shaman with dispel scroll.
2x30 night goblins with nets, standard and musician (take all 3 fanatics)
2x28 boyz, standard, musician (and shields or choppa, 1 unit upgraded to big uns)
6 trolls (normal type)
1 chariot
2 doom divers

With left over points, pick up a level 4 shaman if you can, and try running some of those boar boyz as savages with spears, they hit like a ton of bricks.

I'd deploy goblins/orcs/trolls/orcs/goblins, that should put the center in range of the BSB and General, with the stuff on the outside in range of one or the other.
Use the fanatics on one wide, and the boar chariot on the other; that should fend off pesky skinks pretty well.
Deploy one end of the battle line near a table edge, to keep the skinks from sneaking around into the back field.

If you've still go points left, add in a throw away unit of spider riders, deployed on the far outside, just to push skinks further away. Or, if you can squeeze it in (I doubt it) add in the big spider.

Saurus have crap initiatives, so an ASF sword on the warboss would give him S6 with re-rolls, which is pretty damn good.
Doom diver his salamanders 1st, then move on to his cav/steggadons/slaans unit (pretty much in that order).

If the slaan goes life, get into combat as quick as you can to limit his targets. If the slaan goes with lore of light, you can hang back and shell him for longer.

wow thanks for the help man but just a couple questions the bsb and the warboss, would I keep them in the boar boys unit, or just a regular boys unit??

and also would that jeopardize my leadership bubble for my trolls? how can I go about managing that?

Put them on boars, and have them join the boys on foot.
With the general on one side of the trolls (in the big'un unit) and the BSB on the other side of the trolls, the trolls are taking stupidity and break tests at Ld10 with a re-roll.
