I realize no terminator army is super duper competitive, but which one do you think is the best? Let's say most, but not all of the list has to be guys in terminator armor. What would you run? Ultramarines? Space Wolves? The new Grey Knights?

Dark Angels for pure 100% terminator force

Black Templars can take 2 CML's with Tank Hunters in a five man squad. Tactical only obviously, but then you've still got 10 preferred enemy power fist attacks. They are not troops/scoring though. Thanks to command squads you can take for of them though.

Just to clarify, by best I meant best list that could be made. Not best individual unit of terminators.

Considering that you are only choosing from GK, DA, and SW (assuming "purist" terminator lists), GK or SW are the best, depending on what you want to do. I would say that GK, being designed for it, are probably marginally better though.

That's the thing, I am not familiar enough with these codicies to really know the strengths and weaknesses.

New GK - Psycannons, Initiative 6 termies possible, 2 Wound Termies. No Storm shields.

DA - Storm shields everywhere and...? Special deep strike assault rule? And?

SW - 7 points cheaper if no upgrades, but need drop pods if deep striking. SS too expensive. Combi-weapons.

id go DA, 6 units of TH/SS, scoring termies with belial, and 4 cyclones, good luck shifting them in an objectives game, and only 7 KP, small units though, this conbined with DW assault and you could have 4 units of termies in your face immediatly ... and all fearless

I don't know about the others, but I'd recommend against a SW pure terminator loganwing. Yeah, the termies score, but they're expensive, and still just termies.

I haven't seen anything about the GK, but I'd agree with the statement that they're probably going to be the best based purely on the fact that they're DESIGNED to have termies as troops from the get-go.

S5-stormbolter + psycannon-spam terminators with 2++/4++ in assault and scoring, backed by 3 psybolt-rifleman Vendreads? And for HQ, get a librarian to give the terminators (and dreads) stealth for 3+ cover. What's not to like about the GK terminators?

Except for the fact that all these elitist armies will be brought down by volume of fire.

With the DA, you can have Troops terminators with TH/SS or LC and a CML in each squad... For 235 points... So, for the moment I'd say the DA are the best... Looking at the GK coming out in a week or two... I'd say it is going to be pretty close, the SS (post FAQ) on the Deathwing is probably better against stuff if you see a LOT of AP1/2 weapons locally. Over the longer term I suspect the GK will be better against a lot more forces though...

yep, its the DW 3++ cyclone FNP scoring termies that are the nasties, but i will wait and see the GK termies in action.

so far though my DW list is killing all without much trouble (ok a little trouble, but thats my fault)

its

LR
5 TH/SS, Cyclone
LR redeemer (we allow it here)
5 TH/SS, cyclone
LR Crusader/godhammer
5 TH/SS, Cyclone, Banner
Belial: Twin LC or TH/SS
Chaplain: Termie armour

1745

even vs DE or CE with all the dark/light lances, i dont seem to be having alot of trouble, the biggest threat so far has been (as always) green tide orks

Hmm, interesting. 5 GK termies with any combination of force swords, halberds and hammers, along with a Psycannon is only 10 less than that. Psybolt ammo makes them even in cost (assuming combat squading).

remember the +1 to invun is combat only and the 2++ is for 1 model a unit and combat only, but the DW 3++ is all the time, i think these 2 units will grind each other down alot

another thing to consider is

termie 2 attacks +1 for Twin LC +1 for charging +1 for banner, then attach chaplain

thats 25 re-rollable attacks and re-roll wounds, then 5 for the chaplain, and through in 6 for a TLC belial.

now this unit is expensive, but for an old naff codex, is very respectable, even compared to the GK

Yeah either GK or DA, space wolf termies are overrated, they can't teleport, and they pay alot for cyclones, and storm shields

Formosa, that's why for GK I was considering mostly running Halbreds. Kill things before they get a chance to strike.

Who knows. I've wanted to start terminator army for awhile... maybe it will come down to what I think of the models.
