Anyone have any ideas of what I could use as a base? My initial though was the blade from the bottom of chaos terminator combi flamers, which I though would look good, but the trouble is itss expensive to buy for just the one blade, so I may make a milliput mould of it. So now I have the blade sorted, I have had some trouble thing about what could be used for the bolter without it looking goofy and unbalanced. I am going to use plastic rod as the base, and afix to it SM arms, and Scribor heads and bodies, but the staff is the problem, as I am not sure how to do it relatively cheaply.

Use the older style bolters from FW as they look smaller than the std ones or the ARM mounted bolt pistols from the sange guard ? As for the hafts ether tooth piks or plastic rod or nails work well . For the blade try and get some dark elf spears as they are a good shape .

Men at arms halberds? The trophy spears from the DE raiders are hella long so would suggest getting a hold of a few just for the poles. Same with Chaos knight lances.

I was thinking for the bolter, cut away the trigger area and magazine, fill in the grip with GS, and balance it out a little more wih GS. Then use a stormbolter magazine into the side may help solve the goofy looking problem. I looked at the DE spears, and they look a little too 'barbaric' if you get what I mean, so I may go for the halberd option.

Quite a few alternatives exist... Chapterhouse does some great halberds.

This has got to be the easiest problem to solve that I have encountered that has people stumped.

Have you ever considered the Grey Knight halberd?
It's literally the exact same type of staff. Just add a bolter.

I may actually go for that, the vibro glaives do look good and would be easier than building from scratch. I have trawled through the sprues of the grey knights, and it appears that only the terminators have halberds, I could be wrong, but I think the nemesis force weapons that the PA GK use are two handed swords.

I had thought about using Grey Knight parts before to make some Custodes, but always got stumped as to what helmets to use. But Phoenix Guard would be awesome for both weapons and helms! Good call!

Scribor does some good Helmets for Custodes..

There are both terminator and power armor halberd arms.

I am honestly astonished and extremely confused that you are having so much trouble finding a good base for the staff. The grey knight staff is literally exactly the bit that you want. Why would you buy some metal fantasy model or expensive poor quality resin scibor bit, when you can buy a $2 bit from a high quality GW box that is canonically almost the exact thing you need?

tbh, I didn't actually see the halberd in the box, I thought it was just swords as cc weapons, well, they are now my halberds.
