Attention Disney fans: New details have emerged about the Shanghai Disneyland theme park, construction on which is reported to commence as early as May.

The park's $3.7 billion Phase I will cover 2.7 square miles. Plans indicate lots of water features, including an interior lake and a six-mile "river" surrounding the park. The project will consist of three theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom, according to a Chinese government statement released earlier this month.

The park, reportedly opening in 2015, will be southeast of Shanghai, just 13 miles from the city's People's Square.

Another new theme park, this one modeled on the on-line game World of Warcraft (which has 12 million or so players worldwide), is said to be opening this spring in China's Wunjin district.

Touted as the world's first video-game-themed attraction, the existence of World Joyland was first reported in February by a French gaming blog. The news was initially believed to be a hoax, but the Huffington Post reports there are plenty of construction photos and a Chinese news story on the project.

The park already is providing fodder for late-night comedians. Here's Jimmy Fallon's take on it: China is building a theme park based on "World of Warcraft." Gamers are already complaining about the park's location: out of doors. "Is it safe to breathe? What's that big light?" Each roller coaster has a sign that says, "You must be this single to go on this ride."

Apparently, in the area where they have all of their "carnival" games, there will be a bunch of Chinese people standing around offering to win you prizes for money.

Thats brilliant. The joke not the theme park, pesky gold sellers.

In all I'm not really sure what to make of that, the talk is that less than half of the 11mill subs are logging in at the mo, so WoW might be on the decline.

Folks are still paying apparently, but not logging, so when current three/six month deals run out numbers may fall for the first time.

I suppose its still popular in asia mind, I'd guess a large portion of the 5mill active players are in China.

The 3.7 bil project is a new Disneyland, and it's going to be huge. It will also do very well and pull a lot of Tourism into China. One current problem with Chinese tourism is many adults would like to see sights such as the great wall or forbidden palace, but those sights would bore the snot out of small children. Adding a mega Chinese Disneyland would probably help increase tourism for non Disneyland locations.

Not sure on how the WoW park would do or how large it would be, but very few US and Euro WoW players have the money for a trip to China, and those that do are probably less likely to want to go to a WoW park.

Shanghai's a good place to put a Disneyland. When I spent the summer there we had to fly all the way to Tokyo to ride Space Mountain.

I live fairly close to Tokyo Disneyland. I've seen it from the train and from the highway. I've never been. Most of my friends who have gone have had a crummy time. You can't even buy a beer in the restaurants. Real Japan is way better.

Well I won't be going. They've taken two things I hate (theme parks and WoW) and mashed them together. Sounds like a nightmare.

Funny, I get the same feedback on American Disney Land.

I've only been to World, and from what I hear from people that have been to both, World's infinitely better and the only one that's worth going to.

Twenty, and you can only get them from one area with 6 mobs in it at a time with a long respawn rate and a 5.0% drop-rate. These mobs also have a 0.1% chance of dropping an epic BoE, and will be being farmed continuously. GL HF.
