So my local game store got the preview copy of the new Grey Knights Codex and although I do not own a standing Grey Knights army, I decided to mess around with a sort of balanced list that uses Crowe to make Purifiers troop choices. I think it has a decent amount of shooting and close combat ability along with a Librarian for anti-psychic hate. So here it is:

HQ
Crowe = 150 pts. (just to make Purifiers troop choices)

Librarian: 2 powers(don't know which ones to use yet) and 3 servo skulls = 175 pts.

Elites
5 Paladins: Psycannon, Nemisis warding stave, force halberd, Daemon hammer = 310 pts.

Troops
5 man Purifier Squad: 2 Psycannons = 140
Dedicated Transport: Rhino = 40 pts.

5 man Purifier Squad: 2 Psycannons = 140
Dedicated Transport: Rhino = 40 pts.

5 man Purifier Squad: 2 Psycannons = 140
Dedicated Transport: Rhino = 40 pts.

5 man Purifier Squad: 2 Psycannons = 140
Dedicated Transport: Rhino = 40 pts.

Heavy Support
Nemesis Dreadknight: Nemesis greatsword, personal teleporter = 230 pts. (this is in for the fun of it)

Land Raider Redeemer: multi-melta, extra armour = 265 pts. (this will carry the Librarian and Paladins)

Dump the warding stave on the Ppaldins give it to the llibby he's more important. Also consider taking a 2nd psycannon on the Paladins.

My main concerns are:

Purifiers don't do much but provide Psycannons in your list.

Your main unit is 715 points and isn't a real deathstar. Its good but not as points efficent as say a TH/SS squad. Particularly wihtout the apothecary and banner.

You have no long ranged AT and have skipped over what is probably the best long ranged AT platform in the game in the Psyfleman dread. 135 points gets you 4 twin-linked S8 shots on a Av12 platform that can move and fire and ignores stunned and shaken on a Ld10 test. I'd take 3.

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

For your librarian, always take Shrouding. I think it may well be one of the most important contributions he will give to the army. The other is Warp Rift. It's just nasty against an unsuspecting opponent.

Paladins are not really a competitive unit, but they sure are cool. Just make sure you never leave them out in the open and always protect them from shooting.

Purifiers are da bomb! They are one of the best (if not the best) infantry units in the new codex. Just give them 3 halberds each and they're golden.

For the dreadknight, forget about the greatsword and give it a heavy incinerator. While the greatsword gives you re-rolls, you lose the +1A from having 2 doomfists and also drop from S10 to S6. I must admit though, that sword is way cool.

For the LRR, I'd upgrade my assault cannons to S7 for only 5pts more. It's worth it.

No, not necessary when he's running them in a land raider.

Are you kidding me? Purifiers are the best infantry unit in the GK codex, and there's nothing wrong with bringing more of the awesome gun that is the psycannon.

Word. Paladins will never truly be a competitive unit, but they could be very dangerous against the right army.

Word. Psyfleman dreads are one of the best and most efficient units in the new GK codex, but not every one will want to take them. There is always that cool-model factor.

I presume you mean getting the 2nd Psycannon? He really should move the warding stave to the libby, better protection for a more important model and greatly helps with perils. I'd say the extrapsycannon would be useful but not manditory as they're in a LR and an apothecary and banner would both be important equipement to get the unit.

Yes purifiers are the best infantry unit in the codex the main reason being how cheaply they get access to upgrades. Psycannons are awesome. But I feel he's under utilising the Purifiers by just taking them for psycannons which his config appears to be doing.

No daemon hammer means he can't really assault with them otherwise he's leaving himself open to be charged by walkers.

Whilst Halberds and Falchions are so huigely point effecient on them there is no reason not to take them if you are going to use the Purifiers in assault. A Purifier with a Halberd is 1 point more than a Strike with a Halberd whilst unbeleivably a Purifier with Falchions is a 1 CHEAPER that a Strike with Falchions and dovetails hugely with their cleansing flame power to make them truely monstrous horde killers. Hence why in his list it looks like they don't do anything beyond bring Psycannons which for me is undervaluing them.

Paladins will never truly be a competitive unit, but they could be very dangerous against the right army.

Even then not having feel no pain and having to risk psychic tests just seems to be a waste on a unit you've already pumped so many points into. If you're going to take them take them properly.

You don't lose the extra attack only the strength. DCCWs still provide extra attacks even when mixed with other special weapons (see the Ironclad dreadnought).

just wondering why everyone takes rhino's over RB's? TL psycannon (AC with psybolt) is great alternative also it means you can arm your purifiers with incinerators for a great BBQ the turn they drop out of it or to get enemies in cover which would save them more hassle having to climb a structure etc or a more expensive option more psycannons just to spread out the targets your enemies have to wipe out your psycannons
