Subject: why is cobblestone plasticard so hard to find?

Hello everyone!
as the title suggest i'm searching everywhere to get my hands on some cobblestone textured plasticard. I'm in australia so my choices are local hobby stores, or overseas hobby websites that ship to australia (US tends to charge an arm and a leg for postage, but UK postage is almost the same as purchasing from australia)
I'm at a loss I would have thought that this would have been one of the more common textures for plasticard, so I'm not sure if I'm just using the wrong search terms or something (tried plasticard, sheet styrene, hard plastic)
if you're wondering what its for its for 200 little skaven clanrats (omg how original you say!) so although i appreciate there are other ways to make bases without this, it seems like waaaay more effort than its worth to get tabletop standard.
Thanks for any help you can give me as to where i can find this stuff

Plastruct has a good selection of stuff, but I'm not sure how much international shipping would cost.
I don't know exactly why it's so hard to find, but I do know it's pretty expensive so your local stores might feel it's not worth stocking.

These guys make a great product, very realistic, I have used it many times, sometimes the latex-like texture of the product can be a challenge, but nothing that a little practice wont solve. Ashton http://www.kancali.com/ordering.html

I picked up one of these vinyl mats intended for display of ceramic christmas houses
after chrismas for 8 bucks. Even in-season it's only about twice that. I'm going to use it for basing figures like these which are based with the same product but in a brick pattern.
This pic does show the one downside to these vinyl mats, which is that they are 1mm thick. Not alot, but it should be taken into account.
Both the brick and cobblestone are avialble in rolls of road which are about 4 inches wide and cheaper than the mats. You can find them at craft stores and others (I got mine at Menards) around the christmas season and sometimes at halloween also.

If it is $14 postage, perhaps look and see if any of your other gaming/modelling friends are also interested and put a bulk order together?

There's usually stuff in railway shops, not sure about supplies in Australia but "Wills Kits" do all sorts of packs of textured plastic; bricks, cobblestones, paving slabs, corrugated metal, metal mesh, etc.

Yep, model railroad stores will often carry stuff like that. Nublette: What state and city do you live in? That would help to narrow down where to get the stuff from. I've seen several people use the vinyl matt one (you can get it from Xmas warehouse, but only a couple of months in the year). The one Eilif links to further down seems to be the place where others have got the stuff from.

I'm actually interested in finding this stuff myself. I'm guessing Hobbyco has it or something like that. Would make the display board to go with the bases I'm sculpting easier to do.

You could try looking there.
They used to be quite well stocked with good terrain stuff.
Last time I was there (which admittedly WAS last November) the plasticard, balsa and terrainables aisle was rather sparse (QVB store. Never been to the Rhodes one).

Great suggestion. Food service plates and trays can be a great source of plastic texture. I saved a room service fruit plate from a hosiptal meal because it had a great tiny grid pattern.
