So I just started my orks... first, what do you guys use for the skin?

Secondly, I was thinking of doing the bad Moonz yellow, how should I paint that on the orks, like just the helmet? the pants? shirt? hair? I'm really confused on what to do, I don't wanna over use the yellow but I want them to look like bad moonz.

and I've heard yellow is hard to paint with so how does anyone paint the yellow? Iyanden? Iyanden with sunburtst or golden yellow?

Sorry, I'm just really bad with painting and what color to use.

It's really up to you initiative7, that's part of the fun with Orks, anything goes. But personally I paint my Orks' armour with two coats of Iyanden Darksun, because in the current Codex it says Bad Moonz "wear ostentatious bright yellow armour". I use Goblin Green with a Chaos Black wash and highlight with Goblin Green for Ork skin, I like my Boyz to stand out on the battlefield.

There are plenty of tutorials on painting orks floating around. If you want advice on a specific scheme, post a picture you've found online (or better yet, link to a pic in the Dakka gallery) and someone can give you specifics. As was mentioned, Orks are all about variety, as are many of their painters/players. Some like bright, nearly neon skin, others a darker muddy green. Not too long ago, there was a rash of red and blue orks popping up on Dakka.

Personally, I use 5 layers (3 paints, two washes) to skin the lads, but, in sticking with the fluff, my orks get darker as they get bigger and killier, so nobs and bosses get a similar treatment, but with custom mixed colors (the same greens mixed with an appropriate brown give a dark and muted but still distinctly green color).

As for how much yellow to put on, it really is up to you. The key is making the klan's color striking, not necessarily making it the majority color. Muted skin and muted clothing with bright yellow trim and accessories (glyph plates, belt buckles, hair, etc.) will still give the impression of Bad Moon. So will yellow shirts, yellow helmets, yellow guns, yellow... you get the idea. As long as you don't incorporate confusing elements, a simple hinting is all it takes. Beyond that, it's just personal preference.

why do you want to know? huh? HUH?

I use a basecoat of orkhide shade followed by knarloc green ontop the muscles. Then I drybrush goblin green followed with a drybrush of 50/50 goblin green/bleached bone. For the yellow take a basecoat of darksun followed by bad moons yellow.
