Hello all,

In the 40K Rule book the standard Mission chart is on pg 90. The Chart has 3 standard missions: Seize Ground, Capture and Control, and Annihilation. The Capture and Control mission is begun to be called Play and Tie mission at my local hobby shop. I am looking for a way to make this mission more interesting for us players.

Idea #1
Using the kill point idea from the Annihilation mission I thought of using kill points in the Capture and Control and making the objectives worth 5 kill points. That made holding and trying to capture your opponent’s object still a tempting goal but made it much less likely to end in a tie.

Idea #2
Again using the kill point idea but making holding your own objective forth 3 points and holding the enemy object to be worth 5 points. This lessens the effect of contesting an objective as opposed to capturing it outright.

Idea #3
This one includes adding d3 objectives to the Capture and Control mission and making the one worth more point than the other objectives. For example both players place their primary objective as per Capture and Control mission this objective is worth 3 points. Then the players role and place d3 more objectives as per the Seize Ground mission and these are worth 1 point each. This would follow all the rules for placing the objectives as in the rules.

Alright that are your thoughts? What other idea would you suggest? I know that a official mission book has been released by GW, but leaving that out of this how should the Capture and Control mission be changed. Would one of these ideas be a winner is I changed the point amounts? Give me some feed back.

Thanks
WolfenBen

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Greetings!

Many larger events use multiple win conditions to prevent ties.

One example would be this:

Primary: Capture and Control
Secondary: Control table quarters
Tertiary: Your opponent's HQ choice is dead

That being said, tying a Capture and Control mission is a symptom of passivity for both players. I've never tied a C&C mission - my entire army is coming to get yours. Even better if you only send a piece of your army to get mine - because my whole army is going to eat the piece of the army you send for mine, then go get the rest of it, and if nothing else, I'll control your objective and leave mine open at the end of the game. Obviously, when there are outflanking or fast moving troop choices (like Wolf Scouts or Eldar/DE vehicles), that needs to be modified a bit.

But in short - the players at your store need to get more aggressive and stop playing it safe.

First off, thanks for the quick responce.

you very well may have a point in the need for being more aggressive. I never realy considered the idea of being to passive when both armies take 80% or more casualties. However, this does mean that something is guarding the objective.

That aside I like the multiable objective you said and I am still looking for ways to change the Capture and Control mission to fit the group I play with more (even if we are possible to passive )

Learning how to win Capture and Control missions is what separates good players from average players.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
