Ork Boy Hangin' off a Trukk

Heya Fellas,
Will be basing soon and have been struggling to figure out how to base my Orks. I don't want to do a wasteland theme. I've been considering an urban theme, but fear that I will fail miserably. Then I thought about a ramshackle kind of basing and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to go about that. I'm kind of thinking of Orks pouring through their junkyard or into another tribe's junkyard or something to that extent. I am also afraid that the basing will begin to look repetitive, because all I can really think of is stacking corrugated metal or whatever that shanty town metal stuff (thinking Fall Out, Borderlands, etc. if I am being too vague) is called and some random other bits. I'm not sure how I would spice it up. Thoughts?

You can cut down bits of sprue to look like jagged metal beams or somthing. Use some of the extra bits from your Ork models. You can also work in pieces of stuff from other armies such as weapons, tires, bits of tank tread and such.

Orky Things to put on bases, sticking to your thematic idea:
-corrugated sheet
-chainlink
-bricks
-bars
-spars and rods
-pipes
-dead things and parts thereof
-left-over meal
-broken weapons
-intact weapons featuring less dakka/choppy than current equipment
-non-trophies
-cracked flagstones with a smattering of options (blood in cracks, stuff growing from cracks
-dangerous terrain bits that failed to trigger (land-mines, punji sticks, etc)
There is actually oodles and oodles of stuff out there. Orks go where the fighting is, and whre the fighting is tends to be ne near to things that receive on-going attention and is worth protecting. There should be a giant pile of stuff to base your stuff with, it doesnt have to be just corrugated, it can be bolted together, welded together sheet metal etc. If pairs of my suggestions were taken as one, and 10 models were done with those things, you'd hit 100 bases easy, satisfy the broad thematic idea and still have variety to base. And then, not EVERY model needs gorgeous basing, some of them are pretty chill with the fact that they are standing on concrete, or a patch of park that has grown a bit rampant. its all good! Automatically Appended Next Post: then of course, what equipent is it thats lying around? maybe have some SM bolters/ IG Lasguns that have been bent out of shape because they were employed as clubs when the amunition ran out. Maybe dem poohny ewdah gitz dont the right kind of shooty bitz, etc. You can pick a theme and still stay true to it by straying a bit on a few models

15 successful trades as a buyer;

To glimpse the future, you must look to the past and understand it. Names may change, but human behavior repeats itself. Prophetic insight is nothing more than profound hindsight.
It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from. |

Micro Art Studio does a line of "Trash" bases that I think would fit your build perfectly.

Those trash bases are nice, but you can make the equivalent yourself for 'free' if you have a well-stocked bits box. I actually have a dedicated mini bits box just for broken/partial bits that have a bit of nice detail left, especially for use when i'm making bases and terrain.

Thanks guys.
Those trashy bases are a nice visual idea of what I am going for.
Poda_T your input was also great, going to throw this into a .doc cause by the time I actually get around to the basing... >.>

You can always use this for inspiration, though there's not much he's based yet. The board is pretty awesome though, and makes me want to work on Orks myself.
*Edited for a really stupid spelling mistake.*

Oh nice. Thank you for that. I have actually stumbled onto that thread -- it was probably the seed that made me change from my previous idea of an urban basing. Definitely going to sub that and throw it on my folder bar, too. (can never be too safe.)
