I got this crazy idea. What if i made a Black Orc tribe list?
so this is what i came up with

This is a fun list.
The plan is that the 2Borc big bosses keep the Boys in line as this further improves the fluff of the list as the bosses dont tollerate any infighting. The BsB goes with Da Immortulz

Dumb question incoming - I haven't read any of the O&G army books - is there any magic in that list?

I think he means as in wizards. Thats a no so this list obviously may have some problems with dispelling

This is an all Black orc fun list. The only reason the orc boys are there is because you need to have core units. I might add a great shaman to act as Grimgors advicor if i increase the size to 3k

I think its great! I love the idea of an all Orc list, no gobbos. Can't say it'd do well in a tournament but I know thats not what your going for. I'd suggest puting Orc big bosses in the boyz units to save enough points for a shaman or two. Keep the boyz more than 12" from each other and they can only squabble not attack each other. Put the banner of discipline one the Imortulz so Grimgor is LD10. Maybe some "Black" trolls?

I agree, sticking a shaman in there is a good idea, but I actually don't think he's 100% required. No magic defense is not that different from +2 to dispel and a single channel

Are you able to take another magic banner? Definitely give one of the other blorcs the flaming banner, so you can threaten nasty nasty regen things a little bit. Also, find the points to jack the BSB's ward to 4+ instead of 6+.

Otherwise groovy times. Plays a pretty simple game, but should be pretty smashy unless you get totally avoided (which is hard to do in 8th). +1M on Grimmy is a decent idea to get to grips faster.

I'll suggest one big thing: orcs with spears are essentially the same as orcs with two choppas (fight with extra rank versus +1 attack in the front rank), except choppas are going to help out the turn you charge. Going from a 6+ to a 5+ is nice, but I don't think it's worth the +1pt/model.

Also, I think some musicians would be nice for the fast reform and the +1 on ties (because boy, does it feel terrible when you lose combat by one due to your lack of a trumpet/drum/squeeze box). You could probably drop some basic orcs to do this.

As far as standards go: I'm not too big on the Banner of Swiftness, but if it works for you...other ones I'd consider are the Standard of Discipline and the Banner of Eternal Flame. Both super cheap, and super effective. Your bigguns could take one of them. Are Black Orcs limited to one magic banner/army, or can they each have one? Any good banners in the new book that cost 50pts or less?

Finally, the Amulet of Preservation is the 4+ (don't know why; it's easily the lamest name out of the three). Protection is the 6+. Knowledge is Power!

The lack of musicians where simply because of lack of points. I gave them the spear so i would have 25% core but i guess i could give them add hand weapon and the banner of discipline.

You CAN have more then one Borc unit with a magical banner but again there was the lack of points...

When i did the mathhammer i realized i could just ditch the spears and still have 25% core without the banner... yay... those 40points could be used for musicians or banners for the other borc units

OH SNAP, how did I miss that the blorcs have no musicians?! Make that happen now!

On the question of spears or ahw, I'd rather just hw & shield myself. 6+ ward for the entire unit, vs paying bunches of points to add just a rank of attaks

Well, you could look at it that way, I guess. Shields and extra hand weapons are the same price, right? I guess it can be broken down like this:

- shields decrease wounds taken by 16% (conditional) and 16%.

- extra hand weapons increase wounds dealt by 30%.

The shields have a very slightly higher increase (against S3-4 opponents), but it's always better to kill more guys than it is to lose less.

I think that's an accurate (though very rough) estimation of how it works out.

I thought other heroes could not join the unit with Grimgor.
I would ditch grimgor anyway, and add in a black orc warboss with the wizard hat, and a 2nd black orc warboss to be general.
Then I'd combine the core choices into a single huge block of big uns with extra hand weapons (black orcs in light armor).
