I have a question about a couple of bases I just received from Forge World. I just purchased three Tau XV-88 Broadside Battle Suits to use rather than my GW one’s. The question is this:
The GW Broadsides are supplied with a 40MM base which is the norm for all the GW Battle Suites. The Forge World Broadsides are supplied with 60MM bases (at least the three I just got)
Now if I using FW Battle Suits in place of GW Battle Suits and no “special” rules… technically I should be putting my FW Battle Suits on 40MM bases to stay within the base diameter supplied rule? The larger would be cooler and allow me more modeling but would also be larger for “Base Contact” should my opponent have that opportunity in combat and could possibly be subject of debate in a non-casual battle…..
So, ? what is the general consciences? …… I’m feeling I need to stick to the 40MM.

Technically you should be putting them on the bases that they come with

Very few would really have a problem with the base size, it will not really provide any advantage to your broadsides and will provide a significant disadvantage in that should they fall back, they will leave the table sooner(use that as justification should you need to).

I believe also the FW broadsides are a Little larger than the GW ones.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

My friend plays with his broadsides on 60mm anyway, if anything it's to his disadvantage as it allows me to get into Base-to-base contact easier.

Technically they should be placed on whatever base they come with, I would assume that this still applies to Forgeworld units as they're still made by GW.

I haven’t built them as of yet but noted that the rail guns are smaller, but the torso is a tad larger not that either is a big deal. I like the FW ones for modeling IE posing and what not. The 60MM base would give me more “space” for poses and being a creative base freak more opportunity for a cooler looking base but I thought the base rule being I’m using them as standard Broadsides I should stick the standard Broadside base diameter and avoid and issues a stickler opponent might have.
I have been in a few battles where my unit has been assaulted too… although, 20MM difference isn’t really going to save me should that ever happen again.

Since they're being used as normal broadsides, they ought to be on the base that normal broadsides come with - same as with any proxy model.

I play my Greater Daemon in 40k with a square fantasy base.

Nobody, not one person, has had a problem with it.

If someone actually says something to you about it, remind them that you're playing Tau, and then tell them to stfu and quit being TFG, because you're probably going to lose anyways, and it's about having fun, not OMG THAT TINY DIFFERENCE COSTED ME THE GAME!

Except it's not a proxy model. It's a GW Broadside that comes with a 60mm base. So it goes on a 60mm base.

To the OP, the answer is pretty simple, since it's laid down in the rulebook, and no opponent who's actually worth playing will object to it. It falls under the same umbrella as someone having an issue with old terminators still being on their 28mm bases.
