Drop saga of the bear. I would (personally) drop CoS, and take jaws/TW. Also, you cant have two special weapons in a TWC cavalry squad. For my TWC, i would take:
1 PF
1 ss
1 naked

205 pts i think.
with this, youd have 95 points, so you could add another speeder, take 4 str 8 powerfists, maybe 3x of 4 LF, whatever floats your boat.

Thank you so much I just skipped over the TWC weapon rule I guess...

Few questions in response:

On TWC is a PF better than WC going at initiative w/ rerolled wounds?

Does JOTWW actually work enough to be that awesome?

Editting above

Also I feel like eternal warrior is needed for the lord so he doesn't get ganked, is it really unnecessary?

Was thinking of cutting the second TWC SS(tho it pains me) and the chooser, and giving the GH squads all a MOTW dude...I would give all the WG PFs by dropping Bear but idk if that is wise yet...

Saga of the bear is completely necessary on a Thunderwolf Lord, especially if he's armed with a Power Fist/Thunderhammer. Personally, I would splurge and get the Thunderhammer; granted, I'd prefer seeing a lighter weapon (Wolf Claw or Frost Blade) on the Lord to have him strike at I5.

I'd drop the 4th squad/Rhino and Wolf Guard to beef up your squads...I'd also drop the Land Speeder and with some points grab another Long Fang pack.

Outside of that, looks like good times.

Forgive my ignorance, but why is a TH better than a PF on a S5 model?

And I was considering a Warrior born Lord w/ a WC...

I was also thinking of dropping the WTT and all the MotW and adding another TWC w/ Melta Bombs for another body...

I would drop the runic armor. With the SS saving at 3++, extra points for an occasional +1 to that save feels a bit un-needed.

If I were you, I'd also consider dropping the RP altogether to upgrade either your rhinos to razorbacks or to make your TWC even more deadly (add items, members, etc.)

Same for the Land Speeder (though I know that they can be well worth their points.

Just my two cents though. I love TWC the most out of anything in the whole codex. In most games that I've used them, they kill their points and much more. I run with 2+ SS in my squads, but that's a personal thing.

Just a question...

on a unit of 3 TWC what is the ideal Weapons load out?

Can they only take 1 special weapon?

Looks like a fairly solid list, I would advise a couple of thinks and listening closely to anything Unholy_Martyr says: he knows his stuff.

I would disagree with dropping the 4th rhino however as I believe the rhino-screen/meltas/scoring is very beneficial (but then again, I am admittedly a troop-heavy kind of guy).

I think the TWC, Lord, Grey Hunters and Long Fangs look very solid (so the vast majority of your list). However, I don't think your Landspeeder will add anything to the list, providing it lasts long enough to have an effect that is. I'd personally advise dropping the Land Speeder, leaving you with 73pts extra.\

I may also advise against the Rune Priest; although he is undoubtedly a handy bugger, I'm unsure how much he's adding to your list outside of psyker-protection. If you were to drop the Rune Priest you would have 183pts spare, which could be spent on Razorbacks for the Long Fangs (enhancing their firepower and the rhinos armour saturation), more long fangs, another Thunder Wolf Lord, potentially another Rhino or whatever.

Nonetheless, I'd advise at the very least dropping the Land Speeder and considering dropping the Rune Priest. It otherwise looks like it should work out quite well.

@ Varl; I'd always advise having at least a single Powerfist/Thunder Hammer and a Storm Shield in your TWC squads, where you go from there is up to you really.

Some good advice here. Saga of the Bear is the only thing keeping a Dreadnought or a model with a Force Weapon (Like....EVERY Grey Knight model) from 1 shotting your Lord in combat.

Additionally I agree about the Wolf Claw. It's mathematically the best weapon for your Wolf Lord to take since it allows him to attack at I5, and the re-roll to wound makes it better than a weapon with a slightly higher strength.

Personally I think Thunderwolves need to be supported by larger packs of Grey Hunters, otherwise they only serve to rush forward and die. Unless you have some beefy packs to hit the enemy line along with the Thunderwolves, you stand to get overwhelmed by numbers, and tiny packs of Grey Hunters just don't cut it. I use a similar list to this at 1,500 points but I combine some of the packs into a pair of larger packs, and I mount up the Long Fangs in Razorbacks in case I get Dawn of War. Nothing annoys me more than having to walk my Long Fangs into the board and take 2-3 turns getting into position before I can fire.

Here is the list I run:

Wolf Lord (TWC, Wolf Claw, Storm Shield, Necklace, Meltabombs, Saga of the Bear) - 245
3 Wolf Guard (2x Power Fist, 3x Combi-Melta) - 109
9 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 185
9 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 185
5 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Razorback w/ TL Lascannon) - 155
3 Thunderwolves (Thunder Hammer, 2x Storm Shield) - 240
5 Long Fangs (4 Missile Launchers, Razorback w/ TL Lascannon) - 190
5 Long Fangs (4 Missile Launchers, Razorback w/ TL Lascannon) - 190
Total 1,499

The one weakness is the lack of a Rune Priest, but it's done well enough without it so far. If you really wanted to include one you could drop the TL Las on the Grey Hunter Razorback down to a Heavy Bolter and replace their Meltagun with a Flamer, ditch one Storm Shield off the Thunderwolves, drop one Grey Hunter in one of the large packs, and drop the Meltabombs off the Lord. That gives you 100 points to spend and a slot in a transport to put the Rune Priest. You lose a little ranged firepower and some durability on the Thunderwolves but gain some psychic protection which may or may not be necessary depending on your metagame.

Feel free to use anything you like from this list and scrap what you don't.

Hope that helps!

The benefit behind a Thunderhammer over a Power Fist lies in the subtle benefits of the rules. Thunderhammers will cause surviving opponents to strike at Initiative 1 on the next turn and auto shake vehicles. Causing your opponent to strike at I1 is priceless when having to dance with nasty CC deviles such as the Swarmlord, Mephiston, other Thunderwolves, so on and so fourth.

Well, opponents Thunderwolves would be Instant Death'd by then anyway, unless they had Saga of the Bear for some reason...

Also, Aldarionn has provided some solid advice too.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll definitely be working some of this in, I do like the idea of lazorbacks(have two tl plaslas backs laying around) but it is so hard for me to get rid of the RP.

The Speeder could be useless, I usually love them but have only ever ran them in pairs which doesn't fit here.

I will definitely utilize a lot of this tho thanks!

With the new GK stuff isn't a RP necessary?

that is just a straight question, haven't had time to go look at black box stuff yet...

Whilst Lazorbacks are always good (in moderation ), they will be unable to shield your TWC like rhinos or Assbacks would, hence I'd recommend Rhinos on your troops and possibly Laserbacks on your Long Fangs.

As for the Rune Priest; whilst he is undeniably a good guy to have in the army - particularly against GK, although he's still not necessary - so would many other goodies. It's a matter of preference ultimately and if you prefer the RP then that's your answer right there.

I too love Land Speeders, however they should really be in pairs MINIMUM IMHO.

Thanks, I'm testing two versions of the list now, my one listed above and another sans RP/speeder and with two lazorbacks
