Are all assault rifles today have Las version in 40k?
Cadian pattern is nothing like today, or Armageddon or Krieg...
But Elysian Lasgun is in fact FAMAS rifle. And I have seen in Imperial armory Lasgun variant that looks like AK-47.
And I have seen one Lascarbine that looks like M14, I think it was from Krieg.
So what do you think?

They can vary massively...
The Tallarn one looks like a bolt action rifle and the Elysian one looks like a FAMAS.
There are hundreds of different models and variants.

Actually, and with a little conversion work, even a cadian lasgun can look like a modern assault rifle. I mean, using only a hobby knife, I've made my lasguns look like a cross between a StG and a G3.

In the artwork pic it looks ike the FAMAS but if you actually take about 5 seconds to look at the FW model it doesn't really look like a FAMAS bar overly simplistic similarities.

BTW where did you get that (unnofficial) artwork? It is cool. The DKoK gun looks a bit like the m14 admittedly.

Very wrong, all Lasguns have rapid fire - but rapid fire is quite inaccurate so they use it only in CC.
It's like on modern assault rifle: Long range - one round, Medium range - burst of 3 shots, Close range - full auto.
And of course it's not the rifle itself, it was build on that blueprints because weapon is badass.

There are many different variants and builds of a lasgun, much like weapons today.

No. Elysian and Krieg lasguns cannot rapid fire. It's in the much more specific Imperial Armour. Don't when you don't know what the hell your talking about.

What KamikazeCanuck is trying to say is Elysian and Krieg lasguns don't have full auto settings. This has no effect on their game stats, including weapon type.

Yes, If you guys thought I was talking about the actual "rapid fire" rule I totally wasn't! We're discussing background here.

Why give a single fire rifle to the para drop assaulting units?
That doesn't make any sense, is there some article I can read about this?

They don't have the ammo supplies to have rapid fire weapons. This way each trooper is forced to conserve ammo. Makes perfect sense to me...

Imperial Armour 4. Elysians are always cut off from supply routes so it's to stop them from expending their ammo too quickly. They also have limiters on their power settings. Basically they are always firing on "low" power to conserve ammo.

conserving ammo on a weapon that can be recharged by sunlight? This no makey sense.

I wonder what the strength of a lasgun firing on Low would be in game terms... assuming that the codex lasgun is fired at max power.

It takes a while for them to recharge. They get dropped right into the middle of enemy formations meaning they have little chance for resupply or recharge their weapons.
I think at full power a lasgun would be equal to a bolter shot at the least power probably S2 or 1.

Not even the hot-shot lasgun is the same s as a bolter, and they've been modified like a mofo.

The designs are used to give the different Regiments more flavor. The FAMAS Lasgun gives the Elysian their compact, "modern" look. The AK-47 one is used by Valhallans, further reflecting their image of Space Russia. Mordians use ones that look "bolt action", a reference to the Mausers of Prussia/Imperial Germany.

The Cadian-style lasgun seems to be most prevalent by far though.

Nah. A Krieg pattern lasgun is cranked to 11 at all times but still it would be like S 3.49 whereas the Elysian pattern is S 2.6. Just round to the nearest whole number of course. This more detailed background stuff only has a game effect in Dark Heresy.

Cadian pattern is nothing like today,

Cadian pattern is based on the FAL style assault rifles that were popular amongst Nato countries and their allies up to the late 1980s when they were phased out.
eg:

Note the carry handle on this one which is similar to the handle used on one of the Catachan lasguns which is essentially a cutdown version of the Cadian one.

I always assumed that, just like how Cadians are 'generic sci-fi soldiers', their lasguns are 'generic sci-fi guns'. Though, I do see how it is based on the Cold War-era NATO assault rifles...in some sense, a lot of the classic sci fi weapons are very visually reminiscent of that eras weaponry.

Before this topic devolves into a useless argument about bolt action and rapid fire lasguns, I'd like everyone to know that these are farking flashlights. They're all equally useless. This is coming from a Guard player.
