Hey, do any of you recall the White Dwarf issue featuring the Black Templars? There was a campaign battle report with Black Templars. In the final battle, the siege of the BT fortress, the Emperor's Champion goes up against the Defiler and kills it in CC. How would he do that? He's only Str 6 with the Black Sword, so at most glancing blows on the defiler. Unless he hit it in the rear, but walkers in CC always take hits on their frontal armor. Was that before that rule was made?

The only Black Templar vs Chaos Batreps I remember(so I could be wrong) where there were Defilers were from 4th ed, where you could kill vehicles on Glances.

How old was the WD? Was it so long ago (previous BT codex) that the black sword was str 10 and int 1? Was it in 3rd or 4th when vehicles could die on glances?
Need more info on the article.

To get nitpicky, there WAS no previous BT Codex, only a variant list in Codex: Armageddon.

If the defiler had already been immobilised, then I think if the emperors champion were to inflict another immobilised result it would be bumped up to a destroyed? I might be completely wrong here, but that's what I think the rules are.

It would have to have all weapons destroyed as well before getting wrecked. That said it's much more probable it was still using 4th edition rules, where, as has been stated already, you could kill vehicles with glancing hits.

The only thing I can think of is that it was Codex Armageddon being used.
In which case it makes perfect sense, as the black sword could be used as a power fist.

I can't remember the issue number and don't have it with me right now, but it must have been the killing vehicles on glancing hits because the defiler still had all its weapons and hadn't been immobilized, also the Black Sword was just a str 6 power weapon. It was a White Dwarf issue that discussed the new BT codex which had just come out. It also talked about Hell Pit for Warhammer fantasy if I recall correctly.

The issue in question was WD 311 in the British numbering system (unsure if it varies elsewhere) The Emperors champion had the 'Abhor the Witch' vow-so no advantage there. It was back when the 4th edition rules allowed for glancing hits to destroy vehicles, hence why a strength 6 weapon was able to bring it down without it having sustained any other damge throughout the game. And the defiler was brought down after two rounds of conflict (in the first no damage was done to either combatant)

Thanks. yeah, it was a pretty epic fight! That was my first WD ever and I fell in love with warhammer 40K and BTs from the start. Now I'm biased towards BTs.
