Cultist of Nurgle with Open Sores
|
So I'm currently undergoing an uberbig project to strip and repaint two large armies, space marines and eldar. At the same time I'm adding to them both with a few choice units here and there. But at the same time I wanted something new, and I've always fancied signing my soul over to chaos. I 've wanted cultists for ages, I like the low-tech thing, and the idea of an average human selling his soul to chaos and fighting out against the Imperium amuses me. Plus all my friends play 'good guys' (space marines, eldar, IG) and I want some baddies. So I was browsing through forgeworld (see also below) and came across the kits to outfit IG units as traitors and man they look sweeet. So now I'm tempted by that. And at the same time, what with all the talk of squats on here, I wanted to try and piece together a squat army, just for gaks and giggles, make up some rules with my mates and try them out, seems like a laugh.
Do you guys do this? I have so many projects I want to undertake and so little time to do it, especially as I'm a very slow painter. How do you manage it all!
Thread part 2...
Be aware that I've been out of the loop for a very long time now. I stop playing regularly about the time they switched to 3rd edition rules as I went to uni and moved away from my regular gamers. But now I've met new people recently who are also into it and I'm starting to get back into the hobby, however I've remained relatively insular against the current happenings at GW. I buy off ebay, we play old rules, and I don't go into the GW stores, only local hobbyists.
So I found the forgeworld website and my jaw dropped. Have GW gone insane or something?! selling models for £300?? Are these vehicles actually for use in the regular game? Don't get me wrong, they're some stunning kits and very very tempting. But who has that much money!

The Forgeworld stuff tends to be for use in Apocolypse games (big games where the FOC and normal army lists dont apply - bring anything)
They are expensive but make for amazing centerpices of a large army. Plus prices have gone up over the last few years as well.
if you are looking to get some cultists or renegade guard you need to get the PDF Forgeworld renegade guard list. it's basically a Renegade Codex. I'll try to find the link and post it here for you.
EDIT: Found it!

Not sure to be honest, i've not read it all through as i dont play IG.
But playing in friendly games you could always use elements of this with the CSm or Daemons codex to allow for demon summoning.
if you are thinking of playign in tourneys or the like then you woudl be better off using the official IG codex and just paintign them up as renegades as some TOs might nto allwo a forgeworld army list.

No daemons in the Renegade list, but the Khorne version in Vraks 2 has Beastmen and the Nurgle version in Vraks 3 has Plague Zombies.

The "Siege of Vraks" books are army books published by Forgeworld. It is a massive ongoing siege/storythat has amry lists and special rules for loads of special armies, vehicles and characters.
Apparently the book "Siege of Vraks, volume 2" has a renegades list with Beastmen in it, whiel Voluem 3 has the option of havign Nurgle Zombies, not quite deamons but as good-as.
Here's a link to the books if you're interested....

Whats the rules with these rules? Are they accepted as legal rules to use in any game or are they just for fun?
I'm loving this idea for an army as I have a IG army but they lack what I'm looking for this codex has some nice little changes that makes them more appealing eg the Alpha legion elites (epic).

Forgeworld rules are, kind of official. You would have to clear it with your opponents and i think some Tourneys allow them as well.
Like i said, it might be an idea to have the official IG codex to hand as a back-up in case your opponent throws a wobbly.

Other than a few of the more exotic units(like the Hounds of Xaphan) and the Chaos Marines(Alpha Legion for the generic, Bezerkers for the Khorne, Plague Marines for the Nurgle), it's a basically a regular guard army. The Mutants/Beastmen/Zombies could be easily shoe-horned into the IG Codex(as Conscripts or Penal Legion) if someone has a problem with you using the list, so just bring 2 army lists.

That doesn't sound good. I want a proper distinct chaos cultist army, not imperial guard with spikey bits :(
Does the current chaos codex have a cultist listing?

Sadly no, thanks to the simplifiers at GW, you used to be able to in an alpha legion list, but they did away with legions being able to have their own lists, so now chaos armies can't really have a pure deathguard army, except for fluffy reaons.
