Why are BA a completely separate army from SM? Did they aid horus in the heresy? Or are they super SM?

They fought against horus in the heresy.
Thier primarch (sanguinius) died fighting horus even though he knew the outcome before the fight even started.

Blood angels are generally left alone due to the fault with thier gene-seed.
As sanguinius died he caused a psychic scream which went through the whole chapter.

In time this started to overcome some of the blood angels, driving them insane with rage.

Those that went mad pretty much became animals due to having soo little control over themselves.
They generally tend to throw themselves at the enemy ignoring anything else going on around them.

Alot of other chapters have different thoughts about them, but generally wont fight with them due to the fact they still allow such marines to fight.
they dont seem to trust them to know the difference between friend and foe when they go into a rage.

Thats a quick summary anyway.

How do you not know this?
Blood Angels are loyalist marines with a separate combat doctrine than standard Codex Marines.

Anyway, no they aren't super marines or are evil, they have a different book because they play differently from Vanilla Marines. They are a assault focused, fast army. Basically the closest you can get to a "finesse" Space Marine army. Do they really, really need their own book? Not really, but what are you gonna do?

GW likes to milk their biggest product (the Astartes) by releasing Codex's and army lists for individual chapters that have proven popular. Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Grey Knights, and Black Templars have all gotten this treatment.

Matt Ward would love you...
The different marine codeci were originally supposed to represnt different organisation between chapters (There were 3 afaik, Marines, Angels of Death and Space Wolves)
Currently the only marine codeci that deserve a seperate codex are Marines, Space Wolves, Black Templars.
