Hey all

I have just finished reading the 5th Lost Fleet book by Jack Campbell and have an itching for space fleet battles, While the books arent brilliantly written and lack a little in depth they do make for a bloody good read, and are real page turners.

Back on topic I really fancy finding a miniature game that I could play space battles with, the only game of its type i know of personally is BFG, but the things that put me off are the expense of the models and the bloody great hulking metal ships, plus the fact that if rumours of GW pulling the plug on metal are true this may mean that BFG becomes unavailable.

So does anyone know of a good fleet based miniatures game? I was half tempted to try come up with one myself but I dont know enough about physics to get what I wanted into the game.

Any ideas appreciated.

Firestorm Armada from Spartan Games seems quite popular.

I don't play it or own any of their models myself so I can't really be any judge about it but quite a lot of people are talking about it, just go take a look in the naval/spaceship games section of Dakka!

Somewhere in south-central England.

This is the site for everything to do with space ship combat games.

To summarise, there is a huge variety of rules and models available. Most models are cheaper than BFG.

The best rules give you preset ship designs and a system to let you develop your own designs to suit any models you might want to pick up.

Starmada is a good system IMO, with medium complexity, some good options and reasonable fleet size.

I used to like Starfire but it has grown too big and complex now.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
