Subject: How would you handle - Null zone vs daemons

Played in a tourney last weekend. ran into a matchup that still has me scratching my head as to what the right response woulda been.
My List is typical fatecrusher
HQ
Fate
BT blessing/might
ELITE
2 x 4 Crushers w/FC
3 Flamers
TROOP
2x5 PBs
1x5 Horrors
FAST
10 Seekers
HEAVY
2 X MoT DP w/MoS, Bolt, Gaze
So the SM guy gets Spearhead and places his Null Zone (in terminator armor)guy kinda middleish of his deployment zone attached to a 5 man company of devastators.
Theres kinda a little room in the back half of his deployment zone for maybe a crusher unit if it doesnt scatter or perhaps a DP or two plus flamers. Again if anything scatters in this bubble above 5 in its pretty much dead.
On my side theres a ruin which isnt large enough to block LOS but can give 4+ cover to non MCs.
I'll admit I wasn't smart enough to check his list and notice the Null Zone Lib till it was way too late, thinking o look SMs easy win. That's my fault, still though I've been scratching my head and haven't come up with a good response to a Null Zone Libby.
Please don't tell me its uber easy and everyone should just automatically know how to do this and whats wrong with you loser face cuz I'm new enough that the simple answers still elude me sometimes.
Thank you for the help.

Wait, he attatched it to DEVASTATORS?
Anyhow, I guess the best thing you could to is to deep strike within range of the libby with as much nasty shooting as you can (not a daemon player, so don't know what specifically) and just waste his 6 guys. Null zone isn't activated until his turn, so if you shoot him to Kingdom Come before he gets the chance to get it off, you're golden. You could also try deep striking in terrain within shooting distance. Sure, dangerous terrain tests suck, but he's not going to be able to force you to reroll your cover save.

Drop the flamers on them. They are a suicide squad anyway so might as well.

Please educate why is attaching to Devastators a bad idea and how do i capitilze.
with as much nasty shooting as you can
In my list i have :
3 BS5 Str8 Ap1 24"
9 BS5 Str 5 Ap3 18"
9 BS5 Str 4 Ap4 18"
3 Flame tempaltes
Now 7 of those shoots come from Fate who i wouldnt be willing to throw away. The DPs and flamers would be ok to try for a single shoot turn as i'm sure if they failed his army would focus fire on them. Problem is flamers not getting a hit and his units all being in cover not sure if the 14 shoots 6 of which don't bypass armor would be enough to kill 5 SMs in cover and then the libby with 2+/5++.

if you aren't already, do not be afraid to drop into difficult terrain and take a dangerous terrain test (you still get to take your invul save if you fail). Daemons are reactive in how they play on the tabletop, they work best when they can play to their strengths. So do that in your games! How big is the devastator unit? Can you reliably kill it with what you can drop in your first daemonic assault? If so then nuke the libby and be done with it. If you dont have a ton of shooting coming in then don't waste your time on the libby, drop away from him and ignore him till you can handle it. he has a 24 in bubble which seems like a lot but it can be avoided pretty well on a standard tabletop. Practice keeping your cc units in combat until your turn (bloodletters for example, they do much better in cc than standing around getting shot). Practice keeping your shooting units back where their better save can protect them. units that aren't in cc and in range of enemy fire should be in cover (a cover save is NOT an invul save and usually a lot better than most units saves). With a strong list, good knowledge of your own units and how to use them, null zone becomes far less scary. I hope this helps a bit.

I think that does help yes.
I'm going to need to become ALOT better at target priority and figuring out what needs to die when. As it is i am not yet able to look at the board and recognize all the little bits. That is what got me in trouble.

It isn't neccesarily a bad move to put a Librarian with Devastators, it just feels as though he'd be much more helpful elsewhere. He's really open for attacks.

Devestators are WAY overpriced. the heavy weapons that is.
his libby would have been best with a unit of assault terminators. that unit would just rape any deamon unit it caught.

You do not need MoS on the princes. Monstrous creatures can already shoot two weapons a turn.
If your opponent want to put a Libby in a static unit like that, let him. Go after the rest of his unprotected army. Otherwise, Flamers can do the job nicely.

Wait until he puts him in a Land Raider---and sits in an AV 14 box casting Null Zone. Daemons love that, given their incredible AT range and invulnerable saves.
In reality---if he's running a Null Zone Libby and protects him----the answer is in your name. Scotch.

I have played against NZ before, it is generally offset by how hard Daemons own almost all SM units (except assault terminators). I would have simply dropped the seekers nearby, run to some cover and used them to crush the unit. If he wants to shoot at them he is just asking Fate and his BC friends to rafe the rest of his army.

just watch out for him to fill you full of bolter shells.
rerolling those 5++ saves sucks.
just be glad that Gks didn't get nullzone as one of their Psychic Powers(that would REALLY feth deamons over, and it wouldnt be tailoring either)
