So what is everyone's feedback for the new TK models? Super cool or flop? I'd like to get some WHFB discussion with people that actually play fantasy.
I was pretty pleased with everything, but found the TG kinda disappointing. I've read some people think the Sphinx looks too "static". For the necro one, I actually like the still look.

I like them and will be buying them (all I think).
I like the Tomb Guard too.
I am just getting started with WHFB though, so mine may not be quite the response you are looking for.

I am excited about the Tombkings update. I had to stop playing them when 8th came out because of how poor they are under the new rules. These new models look great, and i can finally have the Tomb Guard that i want. I tried using the Vampire Counts' Crypt Guard models but they don't look quite right to me, and i hate the metal ones. I just hope the new book turns out great, as i couldn't handle another hit to my army like i had with my Chaos army.

I've always liked them but my TK force looks nothing like almost any other TK force I've played against. Most seem to be VC wanna be forces with catapults. Every now and then a Tomb Scorpion or Bone Giant shows up but mostly it's Tomb Guard and basic skellies (not archers, btw) ad nauseum. I went the opposite route with almost all mounted units. Yes, skeletal "heavy" horsemen are terrible and their fast cavalry that aren't really fast are not that great but somehow it all seems to work for me (usually thanks to a Bone Giant kicking its way through my opponents along with a good sized unit of Ushabti.)
I'll be busting them out for their first game of 8th in a week. They seem like they'll accel now what with the volley fire rules and Righteous Smiting (50 shots a turn from one unit if things go right.) The fact that my opponent no longer can pack his army full of dispel scrolls means I might actually get to do something in the magic phase too!

I'll admit that I might jump on the TK Bandwagon if I can sell enough of my WoCs off at the upcoming Bizarre Bazaar(or at the Dakaa shop pretty soon). A local hobby store is going to have a sale in a few weeks and I'll be there to clean them out($12 for a box of OK Bulls? $9 for a Tombking on a Chariot? I almost had a heart attack right there in the store.).
Pretty much love all the new TK models though. Always did like the undead, but Vamps didn't cut it for me(actually tried them) and TKs really need this update.

Yeah TK have always been an army I thought I would like, but wasn't super crazy about the models. With the prices of the new stuff though I may have to bite the bullet & try to sell off other stuff I've collected but never use.
I could probably get $200-300 for a decently painted BoSP right? Right?!

I don't play them, but the new models really look nice.
The Nercosphinx looks awesome,I might just get it solely for the painting challenge and it would look very nice just to have.
I like that GW is making bigger monsters for the game now.
The Araknorok spider, the Stormbird, now the Sphinx and they are all plastic too.
If anything I hope they keep it up.

I am excited but the prices are killing me. Do you realize that in like 9 months since the new Daemon models came out that the prices have gone from Daemons- 10 for $24.75, Orcs- 10 for $29.00 to Tomb Guard- 10 for $41.25. Mind you Orcs and Daemons are on the large bases too, so the models get smaller and get more expensive. Sorry GW if they were $25 a box I'd be on board but this constant "tax" is driving me away.

Unless I'm crazy, GW seems to have different prices for "basic" models (core in fantasy, troops in 40k) and elite models (everything else).
The $25 price point is less common in fantasy, because models don't tend to come in boxes of 10. In 40k, dark eldar warriors and wyches are 10 for $25, and they were released fairly recently.
The "10 for $41" trend has been going on for a while. Beastmen bestigors spring to mind. High elf white lions. Perhaps elite infantry are more expensive because they are more detailed or come with more bits? Still seems like a pretty big pricing gap.
Oh, and more on-topic: The models look great! I'm always a fan of large monsters, so I appreciate the sphinx. Just wish the bone giant had gotten an update as well (preferably plastic!)

Yeah you are right but still with the release of 8 you figure you need at least 30 of them to form a solid block, and you're looking at $150 after taxes for a unit with maybe 350 pts. Generally these boxes have more bitz but still enough to justify a 40% increase?

I think the necropolis knights look absolutely ridiculous. The concept will always be terrible, even if the fluff explains it well enough.
That aside, I think agree the new war/necrosphinx looks bad ass. Like super badass. One of the better models i've seen done in awhile thats for sure.

I'm massively excited to see the new rules, but a bit disappointed with the figures, if I'm honest.
I don't like the Snake Surfers, I don't like the Sphinx and I think the Tomb Guard could have been MUCH more impressive. I may play TK (if I like the mechanics) and just convert an army.

I first saw the necro knights in a full army shot. Only saw the snakes, not the riders. Thought they looked interesting.
I have to agree, the riders look pretty silly.
I like the stalkers, though. Much better concept.
If the necro knights turn out to have much better rules associated with them, about a thousand threads will pop up asking "can I use sepulchral stalkers to represent necropolis knights?"

I like the monsters, they look good. And the snake centaurs are a good concept- would have loved to have seen them done in a non-undead form.
What I am most curious about is whether the book sticks to the magic item trends of the O&G book.

I posted the rules for both in the other TK thread, here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/480/346661.page#2645901
Page 16 or so I believe. The Knights are probably better than the stalkers ( IMO), although we don't know the points cost yet.

The Snake riders made me literally sit down for twenty minutes in a daze on what a terrible concept they where.
While I sat there stunned at how awful the figs where and how anyone could give a thumbs up on such a terrible idea, it also occured to me that the now mandatory 'big' model was going to be forced on every army in multiple slots. Probably making so the army is at your best with at least two of them, plus the rising costs to play Warhammer as you tend to need many more models than 40K. (Something GW seemed to previously factor with their pricing, or it felt like they did.) Also the realisation, time could be spent better elsewhere, I had a chat with Aurelia and we are dropping out of fantasy.
We will still play Mordheim, 40K etc, just done with Warhammer now. It would almost be funny, well to me, Cruddace made Aurelia abandon her Tyranid army after nine years, and his Tomb Kings book has made me reconsider Fantasy to point of giving it up.
The lad's consistant.

You wouldn't wait to see the rules/fluff before making a decision like that? You feel that strongly about it?
I don't like the surfers any more than you do, but I could probably rustle up some sort of 'counts as' unit to be less offensive on the eye and make do.

It was the 'eye opening' factor if you will, Warhammer has been sliding down the scale in my house for a while.
That model just got me thinking about it, the flood that lead to the decision was stuff rolling around in the back of my mind that I'd not grasped on, but was there if I'd looked.
Cost and time are two major factors in this, I'd rather be doing other things than painting Skaven, same goes with Aurelia with her long term plan of de-helmeting (is that a word?) what would have been her High Elf army as she dislikes the helms.
So that unit was a spark that led me down a path I'd not considered until last night.
I mean when you stop and think we've played something like three games of Fantasy in two years, the writing has been on the wall for a while, even if I wasn't seeing it.
Like I said will still play Mordheim, so GW will get Fantasy sales off me in part. But for the main wargame, it's done for me.

Interesting!
For me it's weird, I get perhaps 5-6 games per year (of 40k or Fantasy) because of family life, work and continued education... but for me the fun lies in the design and the discussion. I don't gleen nearly as much satisfaction from the game itself as I do absorbing every word of the lists until I find the optimal combinations for what I wish to do. That, and I write short stories to go with my lists.
Still, if you're not liking the game, why not quit? Sounds perfectly rational!
And err... if you're looking to sell a Tomb King army...

Like most people, I'm really excited about the stalkers and the sphinx. Good stuff that lends a certain menace that TK never really had before.
I'm not thrilled by the sculpts of the tomb guard, and I *was* excited about them being in plastic until I realized they were priced more or less the same as the metals they replaced. So in all, Tomb Guard remain a wash for me. I don't field them, and I probably won't after the update... I'll cram some more chariots in there, I guess. Or stalkers
I'm probably one of the few people who is not repelled by the necropolis knights outright. I don't *like* the models, but I don't find them as ridiculous as some of the others I've seen. Certainly the low point in the bunch, to be sure.
I was a little nervous about my beloved Ushabti making the cut, but I see they're still listed for sale, and if you look really close and squint, they made it into one of the group photos, so I was pleased about that.
My guess - and this is a short version of a long, drawn-out rationale - is that the TK book will show up with very few magic items of note and a lot of lesser characters. I expect to see the flying cloak, the wound-shifting collar, and a small handful of banners delineated strictly by unit type.
I've decided that I need to trim my WHFB holdings, myself, since I don't get to play that often. That means I'll probably sell/trade off my goblins, elves, and dwarves, and just stick with Empire and TK. One of the benefits of the increasing per-unit cost is that it's opening my eyes to exactly how much money this game costs.
