Recently I took it upon myself to try my hand at carpentry. I have one of those old artillery shell crates around, and I decided to try and make a modified copy for storing my IG. In retrospect, maybe I should have taken some wip shots, I hadn't thought of it at the time. The box holds up to eight 15x12 inch battlefoam trays (or several IG vehicle boxes, interestingly). The stenciling is a bit shakey becasue I've never tried my hand at that, either.

Cool! Probably not the most convenient thing to carry around, but that is one of the coolest ways to store an army I can think of.

Very cool.
But you left out a very important detail.

Since it's an ammo crate, you might want to put some prayers on it or it might EXPLODE!

Actually, if you got some real sealing wax, some authentic purity seals would look cool. Of course, they would be impossible to keep attached...

I actually have some Milliput laying around. It might work for a tough wax substitute. If it falls off, I could just glue the thing back on.

Actually you can keep the seals on by stapling/nailing/ect. the seal on first, then putting the wax over top. If you leave the staple/nail/etc sticking out a bit it will even help keep the wax attached. ... theoretically anyways never tried it, but did something similar.
Cool though. must be a pain to transport though. How long did it take you?

It's brilliant

Reminds me of a guy here who uses an old ammo box from his saw as an army case. (It doesn't hold near as much as yours though)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4qdgno-huo the perfect song for Dark Eldar

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

It took me at least three hours total of cutting and assembling, maybe another hour to stencil, and finally an hour and a half total to seal and stain. Keep in mind that some of this is because I've never built anything like this before. This box is in fact quite unwieldy, but that is mostly due to the fact that I can't yet put my infantry in it (I have no trays yet). That fact that I can house an entire Imperial Guard armored battalion in an ammo box is well worth the trouble ;P
