I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

Saw a report saying 1 foot wave expected
let us hope it is the 50 cm
Still wouldn't want to be hit by that and any flotsam.

Thoughts are with all on low lying areas

50cm is 1'6"
a 30cm rule approximates to a 12" rule

5 metres would be nearer the 16' mark at a guess Bringer.

1 foot waves? Is that even worth reporting? I may be missing something here, so don't take offense, just explain what I am not understanding.

Imagine a one foot wave a mile long (if you get my meaning).

< ___--___--___--___--___

Ordinary waves.

< ___----------------------------------------------------------------------

Small tsunami.

The total volume of water involved is much larger and therefore will push up rivers although it does not overflow the sea wall.

I get it now. Sorry about that. I really had no idea...

So basically where the small waves at a beach would crash and then recede, the one foot wave that is a mile long would just keep coming and overfill everything?

So I didn't dream that Earthquake. I had totally forgotten about it until I read this thread.

Fuji blowing would be catastrophic. Seeing as it is a god, I imagine my idea of throwing the entire government in as a sacrifice might actually get some support.

Always spot my typos... After someone has quoted the post.

Am not hearing a lot of chatter about this quake. Really hoping no news is good news.

Yes, 50cm is "two rulers".

Much concern for the industrious Japanese.

While japan is regularly hit by earthquakes, seeing it's geographical location to a certain ring of fire...

Then again, while it was an earthquake, it wasn't big enough to push all that other crap that's in the news as normal.

According to BBC News, the Tsunami warning was lifted 90mins after the quake (which had been revised from 7.4 to 7.1 on the RS). It also struck 17km deeper than the original quake.

Current casualites are 3 people, 1 63 year-old woman who died after power outages shut off her respirator, and two men aged 79 and 85 who are thought to have died after heart attacks triggered by the quake.

The nuclear plants seem to be fine though, diesel generators kicked in without issue in most plants where power was lost and the Fukushima plant hasn't reported any irregularities.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Well thats good, albeit as good as 3 deaths and a 7.1 earthquake can be. My heart goes out to everyone over there.
