Subject: Is the Emperor Trapped?

A question I have as I read more of the Horus Heresy novels and see some of the events unfold it makes me wonder if the Emperor's entombment in the Golden Throne was against his will. Was he on the verge of death and then they stick him on the throne out of desperation because they don't want him to die? This leads to the possibility that the Emperor is now stuck on the Throne, unable to end his own life and living on as something he was adamantly opposed to - a deity. Or even more tragic, the Emperor is watching events unfolding and fears that if he does die the Imperium will collapse so he has allowed this cult of the Emperor to flourish against his own ideals out of his overarching desire to see mankind survive. In other words he becomes the thing he hated the most in order to save humanity, a dark parallalel to Horus himself who became a monster out of a misguided desire to save humanity.
In essence he is this tragic figure either trapped in a life support web he cannot break against his will and evolved into the very thing he did not want to become OR he is trapped by his own desire to see mankind survive and has gone on to become the very thing he never wanted to be out of a sense of duty to mankind.

But what about everything that's come after especially the cult of the Emperor and the stagnation of mankind? From what we've seen of the Emperor in the HH novels it seems to be the antithesis of who he was and what he wanted during the Great Crusade so even if he set up this Life Support system is he now trapped in the sense that he can't influence what happens or is he now trapped on this path of becoming a monster in order to save humanity?

the main reason the emperor did that was because he wanted humans to be free from the predations of the Chaos Gods.
so he tried to stamp out belife in religion so the Chaos gods would be cut off from their followers.
the Emperor could have intended, once he had succeded in his plan, that he be worshiped after humanity was free.

This is a thread I started a while ago.
Because I fully believe the higher ranking people in the Imperium are holding him back or dont want him to come back. He wont simply just kill himself if all of humanity needs him for safe warp travel.

The Emporer is still actively fighting chaos on the psychic side of things, and is currently the only thing protecting mankind from the warp. He is by no means imprisoned against his will.
|
Can't beat Necrons w/ CSM?
Take 2 squads of Nurgle possesed Swooping hawks and haywire both Monoliths turn 1.
Can't fail. Then charge nightbringer with a possesed Lysander w/ MoN.
Just got to think outside the box bro. |

That statement doesnt say anything in the way of him not being trapped actually. If he leaves the throne Imperial warp travel becomes like canoeing through a hurricane. He is good right where he is, once humanity is being kicked around by the (insert favorite race) 's I believe he has an ace up his sleeve to stop that from happening.
Also for the insert Tau may not be added to the sentence.

I imagine the emperor being like a sports fan. He's screaming at the television on what they should do, but no one can here him, so he's just pissed.

yes, thats exactly whats happening. That is why the warp is somewhat stable for travel with him on the golden toilet. And he also acts like a navigating beacon of sorts.
