Possessed Khorne Marine Covered in Spikes

On a hate rampage.

Ok,
So I've recently decided to order some stuff from forge world, and I have become aware that resin is so full of itself that it needs to be pampered before use-
What do I have to do????
Thanks!

FW resin tends to have a stubborn mould release on it.
It needs to be scrubbed off before you can paint it - or your paint will just bead off and not stick at all.
This coating is what gives the resin its shiny look.

Warm water, some regular dishwashing liquid and a soft but firm brush (toothbrush is good for infantry models. Larger for larger pieces like titans).
You'll know when you've removed it, as the shininess will be gone. Could take a while on some pieces.

Cutting and sanding resin creates nasty dust.
Keep a spray bottle of water handy, and wear a dustmask.
(the water bottle is to spray on the resin as you cut/sand. It stops the dust getting as airborne.)

Warping: A lot of resin parts will come out bent in some way. This is due mainly to an improper mix, and is the result of one side curing slower than the other. It can be fixed with hot tap water (NOT boiling) and gentle bending by hand back into shape.

Casting gates and vents:
Do NOT attempt to clip these off with sprue cutters. Resin is brittle and if there is an air bubble behind them, you will shatter the piece. Use a razor saw and cut CLOSE to the man piece, and remove the remainder with a file/sandpaper.

Painting:
Prime with Halfords Autoprimer (FW recommend this stuff over GW spray, so they must be onto something, right? It's cheaper and does the proper job) and allow it to dry properly.

Then paint as normal.

Keep the finished models in a cool area (not cold, don't leave them in a car on a hot day, or a window shelf that gets full sun.

Are you getting a full resin kit/or a plastic and resin combo? The latter is much easier to build due to the whole plastic part, but chromedog pretty much sums it all up. It may look scary but in reality it isnt all that bad, plus if something comes broken or is such a horrible cast FW will replace it.

Sihamoni takes great pride in the league he helped create, as was conveyed in his recent advertising campaign for the CMFL that stated his midgets will "... take on anything; man, beast, or machine."

Once you have washed the pieces well (which you should do with anything that has been cast) it should hold paint without issue. If you have any pieces that are warped severely or do not fit together place the pieces that need to meet up in a toaster over set to 200 degrees for 5-10 minutes. Then take the still warm pieces out and press them together.

Heh, like I said, EVEN FW recommend this stuff. But whatever floats your boat. Some people still believe that GW spray paints are primers.
Some people believe in the tooth fairy also.

A good primer takes half the work out of painting it.

Not sure I'd want to put parts in a toaster, I'd go for the warm water method. I find it's best to start with warm tap water in a bowl and add freshly boiled from the kettle bit by bit until the piece you're trying to straighten becomes pliable enough.

Take care snipping off sprue/extra casting material, the direction of the cut should never be towards the model itself or you risk spitting something.

If ordering from FW be prepared for some work. Not only the cleaning mentioned above, that is true for any manufacturers resin, but FW has some well known issues with quality.

Keep in mind its extremely variable...FW has sketchy quality...sometimes you get great stuff, sometimes its a nightmare. Your item may be ready to wash and assemble, or you may have a big trimming, filling, sanding, etc project on your hands. Usually the larger/more expensive stuff is better than smaller/cheaper items.

Be ready for...warping, flash, heavy mold lines, deep bubbles/voids.

I have made several FW orders over the years. The Baneblade, dreads, and Eldar jet were very well done with minimal problems.

The chaos renegades needed some help but werent too terrible.

The GK BFG ships were aweful.
