I have about 20 idea's a day for SM Chapters and Race themes etc. I will never realise 1% of them, but then I thought why not post so others could be inspired. So my Idea is for other Dakkanauts to post up idea's for those who might be having a creative drought. So please, post your idea's for Army Painting themes, or modelling themes for others to use including pictures, symbology or artwork.

ASTARTES BRETONNIA

I had an idea for SM Chapter based loosely around the Bretonnia Knights theme. So lots fleur de-lies, each Marine is his own heraldry and colour scheme it would be very colourful and original plus instead of Horse's you could go for a Biker Style Army. To bind them all together and make them look like an Army with a Theme, I was thinking they should all have White Tabards on over their armour just like Dark Angels Veterans, maybe even using the FW earlier types of Armour to vary the Army. So each Marine would be a different Colour scheme but the uniformity that makes them look like an Army (not a bunch of individuals) would be the Tabards. I think if executed well they would look stunning, plus you could make use of Black Templar's and Dark angels for Character models etc.





IMPERIAL NAVY

Inspired by the EISENHORN passage describing the Imperial Navy, and also the Last chancers. Using the System Troopers from PIG IRON, some lovely converted mini's that look like a Space Borne Boarding Unit, maybe put them in GUNSHIPS like the VALKYRIE or VENDETTA. Throw in a NAVAL Commissar or some light armour (Chimera's) and you have a Naval Landing unit. Maybe they secure landing zones for Planetary invasions, maybe they do CSAR for downed Imperial Navy Flyers. Lots of good stuff and you could look at modern Naval forces for inspiration, maybe some converted LAND SPEEDER STORMS full of troopers.

Maybe add to the Weapons, or call them SHotguns, paint them and add on some Imperial Eagle Decals, Instant Imperial Naval Forces.

MECHANICUM ARMY

Not original but an interesting concept, lots of Armour and upgrades. Skitari units as your Infantry and TECH GUARD (read Storm Troopers or Veterans). Chance to use those conversions parts from websites such as MAXMINI or others for parts.

ZOMBIE ARMIES

Everyone likes Zombies (FACT) there are literally dozens of types in 28mm scale. Zombie Imperial Guard, Nurgle Zombie Army, Khornate Zombies, Tau Zombies you name it you could probably do it (maybe not Necrons?!)

WILD WEST STYLE

Lots of 28mm stuff out there. An Imperial force of indentured PENAL LEGIONS with the GUNSLIGERS special rule....Could work?

NATURE BASED ELDAR e.g SPACE WOOD ELFS

Yeah, not my strongest suggestion but you never know, Biomechanical Treemen sporting Shurikens?

SQUATS

Nuff said, but there are some good Dwarf models out there.

SPACE NAGASH

Do not read NECRONS, i was thinking about animated skeletons with 40K Weapons lead by TZEENTCH Sorceror or NURGLE Daemon etc

THIRD REICH ORKS

Based on the old German Helmets you used to get on the Jump pack troopers, Stick Grenades etc. You would have to be careful with Iconography (nobody wants to see a Swastika on a 40k table!).

GREY SQUIRES

How do GK become GK's? what do the Initiates do? Well according to me, they form a Cadre of Space Marine Scouts called the Grey Squires, lead by Librarians as they all have latent Psychic powers. Access to Psycannons, purgators etc, and provide support to their capable brethren with LSS placing teleport beacons etc.

THE SECOND LEGION

A real treat for anyone who wants to make their own Primarch, make the 2nd Legion, SCRIBORS characters would be ideal starting points. You could fight for or against the Imperium, for or against Chaos or against everyone and you could use any Space Marine Codex. You would write your own fluff and use "Counts as" for your Characters.

A HIVE GANG

An Army using the IG Codex, maybe the COMMAND SQUAD is the Gang leader and his lieutenants. Then his enforcers have their little gangs of 10, you could have lots of fun with outlandish vehicles.

ARBITE ARMY

Using IG Codex, Counts as Vets with Shotguns? Hundreds of types of Models, you could use SM Scouts or the PIG IRON MODELS above.

So if you have Idea you are not going to use, maybe post it in this thread for others to use?

I love the adeptus bretonnia idea... it would kinda suit marines too.
The hive gang is a good idea as well...

I've got friends planning an escaped prisoner force...

then his 'nemesis' (who was looking to start a new army) started an anti-riot/anti-prisoner IG force.

Of course guys please post up any ideas you have...

Vespid army
Tron themed Elysian army

Vampire Legion, Think Vamperic Imperial guard, HQ, Elites and characters are all Vampire's Leads hordes of Skeletons as standard troops with Zombies as penial legions etc.

The Grand Holy Chaosion Inquisition. Dedicated to root out the evil Heresy of the Aquilla and worship of the false empire on all Chaos worlds. Idea is that on chaos held world imperial preachers etc will try and spread the Imperial Gospel.

Christmas necrons (I read a rumor when there next dex is released there will be red light thingys as well)

Halloween eldar (someone pointer out that Saim-Hann sounds a lot like Samhain)

Fernrisian Imperial guard/PDF/whateveryoucallthoseguyswhowereinbattleofthefang

I will never collect SM so I guess I can give you my idea for a chapter - the Dragon Guard. Roughly based on Chinese culture with serpentine dragons, along with fire, lots of flames indeed.

Also, a fourth inquisitorial order: The Ordo Idioticus. They root out the idiocy of Mankind. They have a lot to do...
They are particularly suspicious on the Space Wolves, by the way.

I like the idea of a Hive Gang IG army.

How about Kilrathi?

You know, I want someone (not me repeat not me!) to do that Hive Gang - Imperial Guard everyone seems to like it as an idea. The question is would you use established gangs in Necromunda or invent a whole new one. (Van Saar would be better equipped that the IG!)

Imagine SPYRER's as Elites, with Heavy Support form Gangers with Stubbers and Autocannons.

Someone here on dakka, although I can't remember who has done a tau army based around using beastmen instead of kroot.

What I suggest is taking it further and using lizardmen as well and then using lizardmen as fire warriors etc. This still needs some consepting but I like the idea.

I've seen some one who use converted beastmen as tratior Guardsmen.
I like the idea of a Jungle themed Beastman army. Where the troops look like a cross between Lizardmen and Beastmen.

I've just seen BIOSHOCK INFINITE, it's not GrimDark but it's very disturbing turn of the century Americana. I think with imagination you can do a theme well, just because it's been done before doesn't mean you cannot have a fresh take on it.

I love the idea of the "TRON" Eldar. It would be a very simple or elegant theme, could be a Golden Daemon winner. I have also always liked NMM Chrome effects that you get, this could be amazing with various armies..







Grey Knights in NMM like this would look amazing, as would Eldar or Tau, or Necrons... The possibilities are amazing.

Hmm...Maybe if a Microprose Xcom theme was mixed with the Imperial Guard.

That chrome is really cool, how did you do it? Is that a paint?

I myself am getting ready to start up some WWII British-tank-company-in-North Africa action on my Guardsmen. And I often think of Imperial Guard tank commanders like knights, maybe it's a little abstract, but that's what an ideas thread is for, s'pose. So imagine Leman Russes in bright colours with fleurs and lions rampant on them and suchlike. And the tank commander couching a lance out the hatch and wearing a knight's helmet, lol.

It's not me who did that although I wish I could! I did a quick search for Chrome on the Gallery.. But if you look closely it is only three colours painted very neatly and in a perfect reflective form.

Wow, are you using 28mm Brit figures and then giving them Lasguns? or are you using GW figures with some converted pieces? Sounds brilliant.

I'm not doing much for conversions,yet. For me everything's in the paint job so far. At a glance, people will just see them as tank-heavy desert-Guard, but it's more the concept than actually reproducing a British army. I'll probably have markings on the Russes, and I've painted a couple of Guardsmen for it, but the idea isn't fully formed. I'm pretty rusty on my WWII, so I'll be looking a lot of stuff up. This mostly stems from me playing too much COD2 for about a week. And now, seeing those chrome dudes makes me want to try that on some Sanguinary Guard...

Yeah quite impressive isn't it? I am going to try and use the effect as much as possible, whoever did this is very good.
