So reading over thea new codex, it occurs to me that this is the best piece of wargear in the game. Some fun things you can do with psibolts:

Purgation Squad of 5 with 4 cannons and psi-bolts = 16 S8 rending shots that can ignore LOS. 200 pts.
Purgation Squad of 10 with 4 psilencers and psi-bolts = 36 S5 shots that can ignore LOS. 220 pts.
Stormraven with AsC, HBs and huricane bolters = 4 S8 rending, 6 S6, and 8 S5 shots, all twin-linked. 255 pts.
Dreadnought with AsC and AC = 4 S8 rending and 2 S8 twin-linked shots. 135 pts !!!
LR Crusader with SB, MM, psi-bolts = 4 S8 rending, 3 S6, and 8 S5 shots all twin-linked, plus two regular S5 shots and a multimelta that can fire at a different target. 270 pts.
Razorback with AsC and psi-bolts = 4 S8 rending shots. 85 pts.

And all the vehicles can ignore shaken/stun! What fun. It's a shame the ghost knights can't take psibolts. :(

How are you getting Rending S8?

Bolts don't affect Psycannons.

Calm down the crusader bolters no longer are defensive weapons

Psycannons are S7 rending, cannot be upgraded.

Assault cannons are S6 rending, upgraded goes to S7.

Might want to go re-read the dex...

Also on things like ravens and crusaders, the hurricane bolters loose their defensive weapon status. psybolts on these vehicles can be a bad idea.

woah, slow down there. I think you are getting a little confused.

Here are the weapons that are affected by Psybolts

Bolt Pistol (S5, pistol)
Bolter (S5, rapid fire)
Storm Bolter (S5 A2)
Heavy Bolter (S6 H3)
Hurricane Bolter (S5 TL 3x Rapid Fire)
Assault Cannon (S7 rending H4)
AutoCannon (S8 H2)

Nothing else is buffed by Psybolts.

(fluff wise Psycannons already have PsyBolts, eveything else does not use bolts, but rather Lasers or Plasma or Psykic energy)



Any vehicle with Psybolts will lose their defensive weapons (S4 or less), you you can not move 6" and fire everything on the crusader or move 12" and fire everything on the Storm Raven.

It's no longer mobile, but Psybolt Crusaders turn into an interesting area denial weapon.

You also missed one of the more common bolt upgraded units. The TL HB razorback. At 50 pts you can't go wrong with 3 S6 shots on a platform that is nearly impossible to keep shaken or stunned.

Good call on that one, didn't catch that during my cursory read. And I have no idea why I put Assault Cannons down as base S7, I think I was having a senior moment. This does take some the steam out of Purgation squads for me, riflemen dreads seem to be the way to go for heavy support. I'll probably still try them, since I have the psycannon models anyway.

This is part of the reason that people seem to think that this codex is broken or at the very least the best thing going right now.

Yep.
