Those clear bases/displays look pretty cool. Certainly would be fun to mount an important unit on one like it

Haha! Those are great.

The x shaped design would be good for moving large units as you can interlace them to get models closer together, or keep them all spread out. Very nice indeed.

Perhaps you might consider a design similar to... oh, I don't know... 3 small circles formed in the shape of a triangle?

Also would be good if they were "pre-drilled" with a recess or hole in the middle for adding a magnet/pin to to secure models in place.

Making them flush with the surface would help and I suppose you can then simply glue a magnet to the centre of the depression to secure your models

The magnet would just add extra security (especially if you are using top heavy or metal models) so they don't fall off when you move the "movement tray".

And as for what race... it could actually be several.

*coughcoughcough*

Oh dear, don't know where that came from

Haha! You don't have to make one up for me - just wanted to give you some ideas for your consideration if you wanted to expand your range.

The "W" shaped bases look to be the best idea in terms of minimising the threat of blasts on a single base. However, as I suggested earlier, most people would probably be bunching their bases up anyway (as most tables don't have the space for everything to spread out massively).

The "X" designs do look pretty cool as well...

Looking good

Will be interesting to see the custom doors.

One thing I just thought of though - if you can tool the clear plastic, have you thought about creating shield shapes with lightning etched into it? Then people can paint the etch, leaving the rest of the shield clear - a rather effective energy shield - especially if you can produce some kind of solid outer rim/handle arrangement that the clear section can be slotted into...

If you make up some heat resistant moulds you could try using the heat moulding/pourable clear plastic?

You could also perhaps make an inner and outer base? With the inner and outer bases connected by a peg system so they don't just fall apart, but so you can rotate the outer ring which has the wounds written on around the inner base which has a pointer on it?

I don't go online for a while and come back to lots of sexy things

Well - I am selling off most of my warhammer stuff to fund building an entirely new army. When I am done I will be contacting you regards some bases

How are you at dragon heads?

Good stuff - I really like the skull and numeral bases and am trying to think of a good way of drawing a dragon head

Hope to be talking about it to you in the near-ish future

I've seen quite a few people trying to get purple rods for Necron weapons and not being able to.

I would be interested to see what you could do with the image I just sent across to you (a low quality version of which you can see below)

You saying my painting and modeling skills suck?

Also, I just noticed I made a mistake in the colours on one of the scales* - do you need me to send you a new version with the mistake corrected, or can you sort it at your end?

*2nd scale up from the bottom - the interface on the left side between the white and grey should be the same colour grey as the grey next to it on the left

Thanks - I made the design using this image, with an extension to the neck, filling in the top of the horns and a few other minor alterations (as well as obviously breaking it up into different depths of cut represented by the greyscale).

I want to see those bases when they are done.

Me too

I was thinking of adding a layer of varnish to the bottom of the base to give it added protection.

Also - of the necron bases I like the look of the one with a small triangle and the increasingly small circles coming off each of the points (in the middle, far right). Also love the medium sized base on the bottom row at the left.

What are you using to colour the edges? I seem to remember you saying you used a marker pen in another post

If I still had a Vampire Counts army those tombstones might tempt me

And I am really trying to resist getting that platinum APC top hatch

Those mirror ones look pretty damn cool.

Do you etch away the mirror backing, or etch on to the other side? It looks like you are etching into the backing, but I think that some simple designs might look good reflected into the mirror...

I'm tempted to request my bases with the mirrored background now! (even though it would kind of defeat the whole point of me having the bases clear )

You might want to label your newest bases as "futuristic techno Egyptian" or something though

Foxtale wrote:The metal posts are too uniform on the Ork base. I would say they need to be more haphazard.

Agreed. Some extra wonky armour plates with different sized rivets all over the place would look good. Also, you should be able to go to town adding on "rust" and "corrosion" texture effects direct to the model, which I think would look excellent.

I always hated designing things on software. It is hard enough to make pieces that are all the same, let alone design something to look more "natural" (especially if it is Orky ).

I think the biggest thig is just to have different nuts, bolts and rivets holding things together. As many different random types as you can put on there.

Another thought is to make it look as if the name had been hacked out of the plate, rather than letters welded to it.

And have you installed the various java plugins?

They look pretty cool. It is hard to tell, but how "sharp" are the edges?
