I'm not familiar with the torument... oh well, must be some British thing

This list will be torn apart. It *could* work, but it would take a master tactician, bad opponent, and good rolls on your part. (~slightly exaggerated)

Get rid of the SD on your commander, downgrade him to a 'el and give him a targeting array. Blacksun filters are horrible. Get rid of them, unless you are going to a tournament where you KNOW every mission will be a night-fighting mission.

If you get a 'ui for you fire warriors, you should get a BK, otherwise, don't get them.

You have overkilled your troops, you got WAY too many. I would get rid of 2 of your troops choice, fire warriors or kroot (preferably fire warriors).

I would upgrade your devilfish to a warfish, giving it SMS/TA/MT/DPs

You crisis suit unit is terrible. Variety=fail. Shield generators=overpriced fail. You must use multi-trackers to fire 2 weapons as well!

That said, all the suits in your unit should have the exact same loadout. It gives them more focus, and makes them better at whatever you want them to do.

All you HS options are great... you may want to consider getting rid of a hammerhead for broadsides though.

I would include 2 crisis suit units in your list, as follows:

Firestorm Crisis Suits (3)
(Burst Cannons/Missile Pods/Multi-Trackers)
-150 Pts.

Fireknife Crisis Suits (3)
(Plasma Rifles/Missile Pods/Multi-Trackers)
-186 Pts.

I probably missed a good deal (I kind of rushed this)... oh well. If you want clarification on anything, or want me to expound on why certain things are bad, just tell me.

i like you ideas, i will downgrade, my commander and give my suits multi trackers.
my only problem is that i don't have any broadsides and i only have 2 other battle suits burst cannon, shield generator and flamer, the other has twin linked plasma rifle and shield generator. and it is or a tournament.

1. Hobby Magnets, 1/8" disc. They are cheaper than you can possibly imagine.

2. Steal your dads Dremmel tool. (just kidding... sort of)

3. Buzz a tiny indentation into the arm... tiny indentation into the gun.

4. glue magnet in.

5. Only have to own a maximum of say.. 12 suits. 15 @ the absolute maximum!

6. Spend the money you saved by magnetizing on tickets to the illest Dubstep show in town.

7. Open your mind to new horizons and your consciousness to higher points of cognitive thinking.

8. Achieve nirvana.

9. Life complete.

Magnetization. It's that good. Also, it would solve your "I only have this kind of suit left." problem.

A thing or two The_Bringer & CJ didn't mention:

Try for a troop choice one per 500 points of game.

I'd simply make each a single suit, easy to hide with JSJ and less need for a Shield *Drone* , not Generator. Never take Gens, as if you fail the wound, likely a LasCan, Pfist or ML, it's Instant Death. Better that chance be taken by a Shield Drone, but for now, skip those. And rip off the weapons and Shield Gens and take CottonJaw's advice. I mean it. Rip 'em off. Then go with REMagnets.

Now, how TB can just "stick 'em on", well, that's just how he rolls.

Add a DisPod to tau vehicles every time: Cover SAve!

And keep your Railheads for now, they're arguably the best tank in the game (well, okay StormRavens are better, and LRCs are ...) well, a *good* tank anyway.

No... like, there is this little peg on all my weapons, and it fits snuggly into that little hollow part on the arms and shoulders of my crisis suits. I go around without using anything (not even blue-tac, though I have loads of it.)

Its simple, really. I don't know why people magnetize their suits.

Ignoring the anti-Shield Gen advice?

These are illegal. Only Team Leaders can access the "hard wired" gear and that means the hwMT you've given them is illegally acquired. If you really want to keep the Shield Gens (bad idea) then how about this instead:

Elite Unit #1: XV8 - BC/FB/Target Array, Team Leader (even though he's by himself) *then* hwMT and for goodness' sake, a Shield Drone.
Elite Unit #2: XV8 - BC/PR/Target Array, Team Leader, hwMT, hwDC, & a Shield Drone.
Elite Unit #2: XV8 - BC/MP/Target Array, Team Leader, hwMT, hwDC & a Shield Drone.

You take Shield Drones because:
1. It's cheaper by 5 points than the Shield Gen
2. It is an extra wound.
3. Your suit won't die from a failed save vs. a LasCan, ML or Melta-wep.

If your models have the ShieldGens glued on, rip them off. All of us have a ton of left over Gun Drones. Simply rip off the carbines (like I did) and no opponent will have a problem calling them SDs.
This advice has the weight of 5 years tau experience and a 70% Win-Loss ratio.

I also do this. They literally fit in and stay there...I just wish I realized that before gluing half of mine together as Fireknives

Wait, are you saying 3 one-unit squads of Team Leaders?...Or am I misunderstanding you? You can only have one Team Leader per squad.

You understand correctly. Perfectly legal, too.

mega_bassist wrote: You can only have one Team Leader per squad.
Correct again. You have 3 separate squads/units. Each one is comprised of one suit, who just so happens to have the Team Leader upgrade, TA/gun/gun and then a hwMT.

If you don't have the points to upgrade for Team Leader, then you just don't select the Target Arrays and have a Gun/Gun/MT Crisis Suit instead.

There's even a term for single suit units, "Monats".

Regarding the Shield Gens: There are going to be a lot more AutoCannon GK dreadnoughts on the scene. They're quite offensive and tough. With Pysbolt ammo, increasing the STR of the ammunition to STR 8, they're better than the (much pushed by GW) dreadknights. Also, if anyone is running Dark Eldar, that's loads of Dark Lances and Blasters, both cause Instant Death. I'm just trying to help you realize that the Shield Gen is a 50/50 chance of dying anyway, eliminating the Crisis Suit's multi-wound advantage. So, why are you *not* going with Shield Drones? Is it because your Shield Gen bits already glued on?

Huh...never thought of that...I've heard the term before, but I didn't know what it meant...now I know what to do with my extra XV8

As for the Shield Generator - drop them. Please. It's the same save with a drone and drones act as an extra wound
