as a side note... blitz L&L isn't the 4th ruleset but the 5th. the original blitz with it's three army books was the 4th before it was quickly replaced by L&L.

Yes, I suppose that's true... But the core is mostly the same. You should note that article was written in 2009 as well .

And if you count this weeks Field Manuel revisions, were on 6th edition!

i'd disagree on both counts in a way but i do see your point. blitz definitely was replaced as NONE of the 4 books were usable with L&L after less than 3 years (or less than 1 for the Peace River book) after publication, much to my eternal nerdrage dismay. i'd say the field manual is more of a heavy gear 5.5 or blitz 2.5 in that it changes the rules part of locked and loaded (from what i hear... only the first 1/3 of the book or so) but leaves the rest usable. in addition, the field manual is available as a free update for legal pdf users so that does soften the blow somewhat also. despite my love/hate relationship with dp9, i wouldn't call the field manual a new edition. this goes against the thinking involved with 40k where codicies don't auto-change with the edition but dp9 has in the past thrown out the baby with the bathwater during their frequent edition changes.

either way, i hope rendar does get his HG juices flowing. he's got a pretty awesome gallery of pics and it'd be nice to see some more nicely painted gears in battle on display there.

i really wanna do some awesome terrain for heavy gear . ive been looking for alternatives for tanks and infantry . the gear models are awesome . but i think i can subsitute cheaper models for the infantry , tanks and apcs . i just ordered some pendracken 10 mm sci fi colonial marines see how they work . a regular dp9 infantry platoons about $ 22.00 for 40 10mm figs . where pendrakken infantrys $ 2.99 for 10 figs . well see how they look . also i was thinking of useing the khurasan 15mm tanks for heavy gear tanks . i wonder if there to big or will macth closely . th HG tanks are pretty big compared to the gears . also khursan tanks are $ 14.00 and DP9 tanks are about $ 40.00 each . the second thing is ive always dreamed of making an awesome completely covered city table . roads stores sky scrapers , everything . you never see a fully realized city table . i want to see if i can do it for heavy gear . well see . ive got some itches to scracth with heavy gear . well see how it all comes together ! www.squeakersgameemporium.com

The multiple rule-sets also covered a lot of 'ground' in that the early tactical stuff was meant more of a vehicle combat system for the RPG (but could be played separately) and it really took until Blitz! to 'cut the cord' and make a game that is a bit more recognizable to gamers accustomed to Warhammer and similar: Complex army building guidelines, etc.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

With my recent (as in this past week) jump back into Heavy Gear, I've decided to start up a blog here on dakka if you guys want to swing by and comment. I've got plenty of 40k armies (over 15,000pts worth of guys spread over several armies) but I've never actually taken pics of models/armies prior to completion as part of a blog so this will be an interesting experience for me in both aspects (blogging and building up a HG army).

Cool! Already subscribed and commented. Seriously, let the guys know about the Naga and they'll get you a replacement main hull.
