I'm going to be fielding assault marine squads in my BA army and I've Bern contemplating on taking either a lightning claw or a normal power weapon on my sergeant.

Would it be better to have 1 more power weapon attack or have rerolls to wound?

I know I can take 2 claws but that just seemed too costly, for that price I'd take the thunder hammer instead.

If they cost the same, which they do IIRC, the lightning claw is almost always superior. There was a thread on this subject like a week ago, but my search function's buggning out for me ATM so can't link.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

For base C:SM and Blood Angels, lightning claws are better. For Black Templars and Dark Angels, power weapons are cheaper, so it's up to a matter of taste and how many points you have left over. Space Wolves have Wolf Claws instead, and I think I prefer PWs over them myself.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

There's a mathhammering thread in Tactics that's pretty recent: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/359068.page

The TLDR version is that a single LC is almost always better. I'll admit to being one of those people that just didn't get the whole "rerolls is better than the +1".

I have a company command unit for my marines, which carries three LC. However, that's because their job is being a melee powerhouse. On anything else, such as my sergeants, power weapons, or power firsts.
