Marbo does seem to be the flavor of the day my friend! I'll be interested to see what your skills come up with for him? mine is currently awaiting a simple green bath on monday ready for a re paint! we should game one day and have Marbo V Marbo, may the best Marbo win?

Nerd, if I could afford a trip down under, I'll visit you and bring marbo with me! I have something in mind for him, a certain image in my head that I think would look suitable:

Standing up straight, as if his back were up against a wall (possible terrain piece on his base), anti-tank steilhandgrenate (stick grenade with loads of heads bound around it) in his right hand, his left against the wall as if he's about to chuck it round the corner. I was going to use the head from the Cadian veteran upgrade, the one that looks like he has a 40's style German army haircut (long top, shaved sides). He'll have rolled up sleeves. Holstered pistol, though I may put this in his left hand.

Good evening chaps and chappettes...

Have been away for a loooooooooooooooong time, what with finishing university, finding work and general lethargy! I dug out my paints and models the other day, sat down and did.... Absolutely nothing! I fully intend to get the Command Squad finished and make a start on the Storm Troopers. The trouble I have, aside from motivation issues, is that I can't remember exactly how to do the colours... I'm sure I'll get it again though.

Also in the pipeline is to do my Marbo conversion and make a Basilisk/Sturmgeschutz conversion...

I was overwhelmed with stuff to do at the weekend! I'm thinking I might do some painting this evening. I shall try and remember the process for the colours; as I recall it's pretty straight forward. I actually need to finish sculpting the carapace armour on the rest of my Storm Troopers, perhaps I'll do that instead?

Right, been doing some painting over the past couple of nights, namely some Storm Troopers. Now, I can't find my camera, the camera on my phone isn't up to the task AND the bulb on the lamp just exploded. All in all, not having the best evening!
Anyway, I've painted the Storm Troopers with the field-grey tunics and the dark green armour. To set them off slightly from the rest of the models, I've painted the trousers in a brown colour to mimic M44 peadot- haven't actually done the dots on it yet and I'm slightly apprehensive about doing so. Had a bit of a practice and it came out pretty pants.
So anyway, I have actually been doing something productive and haven't been sat on my arse doing nothing!

May have also made a start on a template for my StuG type tank which, I have decided, will have a detailed interior... Thinking about calling it an Argus Assault Gun; a play on the name of one of the Cyclops, Arges, to fit in with the theme of all Imperial Guard tanks being named after a mythical monster.

I'd like to pull it off, especially an interior- somewhat more adventurous than I have been in the past. I will be making the tracks and road/idler wheels myself too. The only thing I'll be using from a kit will be the pintle mounted Heavy Bolter MG style weapon I did before.

*Might* have started building my Argus Assault Gun tonight...

It is a little taller in dimensions than a real one is but it will look much "flatter" when the tracks get put on it (a process I am both looking forward to and dreading in equal measure).

Ok, progress has stalled somewhat this evening but normal service will be resumed at the weekend when I *should* have some free time.
Quick question for those in the know- what can be used as tired wheels? I have been thinking about making my own cogged drive wheels out of plasticard...

Small update:

Made a small start on filling in the gaps in the armour plates with some liquid green stuff (bit odd, still getting used to it even though it's been around for donkeys years now...).
Also made a start on the cannon- made the scale moar biggerer than a real StuG, what do you think? Keep it big or scale it down?

i think the cannon is a touch too big but thats just me. maybe make it half as long. unless this is just for shelf purposes that guy might try and say your modeling for an advantage. but it looks good so far \.

@Alabamaheretic; I never thought about the implications this would have on gaming- I'd best make it smaller! In all honesty I did think it was a little on the large side...

I need to order some bits to make the tracks now...

well it looks cool none the less but still sometimes big is not best. im sure if you chopped it by a third or so it would look better but im not that awesome at scratchbuilds. just my thought any way

I think you're right, real tanks have very small guns relative to the size of the chassis (unlike 40k tracks which are ridiculous).

very true but you also have to think these tanks are based off of WW I/WW II so the guns are not as nearly as big. it is still gonna look good when you get it done and i thought the stuG had a lot shorter barrel not too sure would have to use my google fu to find out.

yea the tracks are kinda big and silly but if you wanted historical accuracy you would be playing FoW not 40k lol any way i hope i provided some insight to your delimma

Yeh, the main gun on the StuG IV only just extended past the front of the chassis. Still have to figure out how I'm going do the interior...

So I spent some hours this evening shortening the gun barrel and square mount-thing and added a breech. Just building up to doing the fiddly things like the breech locking lever, target finders, shell rack, commanders chair and all the other biscuits...

Quick update to show the rough colours of my storm troopers (for some reason the uploader insists on putting this picture the wrong way up, no matter how the picture is actually orientated- hadn't happened with any other pictures, just this one!)

*Might* have bitten off more than I can chew with the tracks though I am a quarter of the way through building one already so we may just have to wait and see if I develop rage and hulk the gak out of the tank...

Sweat beaded on Heinrich's brow as he sighted down the barrel of his lasrifle. Cadians had the Kantrael pattern with shoddy polymer furniture and ridiculously complicated combat sights. Heinrich on the other hand had a Mk.98- no fancy telescopic sights and no plastic. It was constructed of metal and wood, the way the Emperor intended. He squinted at the rear sight and adjusted his point of aim slightly.
To his left and right, his fellow Grenadiers did much the same, checking their weapons were ready to use.
His helmet felt heavy as did his webbing. In fact, he felt weary after several days of constant fighting in this now ruined agricultural market town. They were positioned on the outskirts of the town in buildings and ruins, overlooking several bridges which would have previously led out into verdant countryside, rolling hills and fields full of harvest crops. As it was, the enemy had seen fit to invade and now the fields burned or were churned to mud. Smoke drifted lazily over the river towards their positions. He absent-mindedly watched as it made its way passed them but was snatched from his reverie by movement across the bridge. Figures darted from cover to cover. It was at this point that the call went out to make ready and hundreds of rifles were brought to bear and aimed at the advancing soldiers.
"Good morning gentlemen!" Leutnant Haas came to join Heinrich and the rest of his section in the first storey of a mill located on the bridehead of the largest crossing point.
"Good morning Herr Leutnant!" Heinrich replied. "Was beginning to wonder when they would try it again."
"I hope they didn't disappoint Heinrich?" Haas grinned.
A high-pitched crack signalled a las-round as it hit the window sill at which Heinrich was sat and sent shards of plascrete and dust into the air. It was quickly followed by more until the air was thick with the stench of ozone and charred masonry. The few furtive figures had been joined by considerably more and were advancing steadily towards the river.
"Where the bloody hell is Mikel with my vox? MIKEL?! MIK..."
Mikel the vox operator appeared as if by magic at his lieutenant's side and offered the receiver to the officer.
"Emperor damn it man! I hate it when you do that... Give me the vox. South HQ this is Falcon, message over."
There was a brief crackle of static before the line responded.
"This is South HQ, go ahead Falcon."
"HQ, large enemy force approaching from south of river. ARTY Hi-Ex to be on stand-by, how copy? Over."
"Negative ARTY cover Falcon, tasking elsewhere. Additional units en-route to engagements east and north. Over."
"HQ. Understood. Falcon out."

"Bugger."

Ok, I've been thinking about my Heavy Bolters and whether or not I should use the actual models instead of my realistic representation of them (they do after all look like heavy stubbers).

What say you Dakkanaughts?

Having been away for a week or so I'm amazed at all the updates here! Your StuG concept is looking awesome, although i do agree with your conclusion that the gun could be marginally shorter it really isn't essential, looks very 40k scale as is! As for the liquid green stuff I know what you mena, seems like its been around for a while but i still cant quite master the damn stuff, its the fact that it shrinks when its dried.

As for the colours on the stormtroopers, the picture isnt showing up for me

As for the tracks....well, what can I say, you are truly INSANE sir! THey do look awesome when done though and I am very impressed with how they seem to flow, but still, insane amounts of work!!

Also I really liked that bit of fluff you included there, want to know what happens to the poor arty-less front liners now!

Keep it up! And may your sanity be preserved whilst doing those tracks.

Also i think the heavy stubber looking heavy bolters are absolutely perfect as they are, I could understand if there was the option to have a heavy stubber heavy weapons team, but at least as far as the normal codex is concerned you can't, I say stick with them, they look too good!
