Gotta say kinda depressed about what I've seen concerning Bretonnians. I don't play WHFB anymore due to the multiple reasons listed in this thread but a Bretonnian update would definitely get me back in the game. I've seen it said that nothing could be added to the army but also as was said one just needs to look into Arthurian Legend. Also there could be new peasant units, new characters and they could probably redesign the grail relique to be plastic with an option of making a shrine of the lady, maybe even something about the questing beast.

And the design team at GW is pretty creative. I mean who would have thought of wingless griffons as a cavalry mount for the Empire. I know this is pretty much wish listing but there is plenty of material to draw upon for an update.

Still holding on to my hope for Bretonnians

A lot of the delays relating to Bretonnians are in relation to their 'silhouette'. As much as you can try, it is difficult to come up with an idea for a monster-type unit for them to use (mainly because in any sort of legends they just straight up kill them upon sight for honour/glory/damsel etc). In addition a lot of the current Bretonnian range is pretty much entirely classified as historical figures. This does not allow GW the kind of hold on design and IP which make them able to enforce any sort of copyright infringement if others were to create miniatures for a similar purpose (just look at gamezone Fuedal Knights for example, some beautiful miniatures there).

So what they are forced to do is try to keep it all within the Arthurian/Charlemagne-era aesthetic, but differentiate it enough so that it is distinct in design and so they are able to claim ownership of said aesthetic/design and associated symbols in conjunction. This is far easier said than done, and a lot of the current Bretonnian rumour point to them not being released for some time, but still being in the works.

So don't hold your breath for Bretonnians anytime soon, but they are still being worked on nonetheless.

It's not for lack of trying, but rather that the execution of the release has a lot of requirements in order to tick every box from the higher ups in order to leave the studio.

Cavalry isn't very strong in this edition compared to last edition, they have to fix the lance formation and maybe give brettonian cav stomp or something.

I think slapping an impact hits rule in with the lance formation would be enough. Maybe 1d6 hits +1 per rank after the 2nd or something.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Well, if you think 2008? is recent, then yes they did.

Of course, considering how obscene their magic phase is, and that currently the 'uber tricked-out Slaans are the only things keeping the book looking competitive...
Lizzies could really use that face lift to bring the Slaan into line and buff the rest of the book.

Just a thought, why are there no golems in WHFB?
Meaning a creature/monster made out of rock. I do not recall seeing one anywhere and I think it would make a good fit with wood elves, and if logically it would be too strong it can just have a weakness to magic like ethereal units.

So the Short Bus cold ones are staying! This is great news!

I'm surprised at no MC unit, opting instead for 2 new huge beasties.

Ripperdactyl sounds like something an 8 year old came up with after seeing Jurassic Park and deciding to do his own genetic experiments. A truly uninspired name.

In other news, Scar Veterans on Carnosaurs is a new twist.

The fact that Bretonnians have gone a straight decade without so much as a WD update should tell you how important that army is to GW.

Which is a damn shame, because it's one of the few armies with decent plastic core models that aren't begging to be redone.

Within a year for dwarves? Hahahahha! 1.5 years for brets. Hohoho no....stop it my side hurts!

No possible way. All GW cares about is rehashing WoC, Daemons, and Lizards over and over with the occasional Ogre or Tomb King thrown in to keep the pheasants happy.

The game is far too big monster centric for Brets. Too magic centric for Dwarves. And GW just plain doesn't give a crap about wood elves.

A rehash of dwarves is the only thing keeping me completely out of Fantasy, has been for years. But with how 8th edition really hurt Fantasy in most areas I don't see them getting updates until they change editions. If they even get it then.

I'll gak a brick if 9th hits before Bretonnians and Wood Elves. Perhaps we should organize a protest in front of GW HQ for those armies to finally be done, or for a release schedule to be made public.

I'd rather have Brets and WE's part of an updated edition, then be an edition behind when 9th hits. Who knows, 9th might buff skirmishers and cavalry (Fast and Regular Cav) thereby breathing some brief life into their Army books until they get a 9th rewrite. Each respective book has more problems then just core rules that are unfavorable to them, but a few tweeks to those core rules could get them in a right direction.

Lord knows both Skirmishers and Cavalry need some love.

True, but I almost wonder if this will not be a case of Dark Eldar or Necrons where we see new 'options' for the Core.

I can easily envision Wood Elves getting a Lothern Sea Guard-esque unit for the Eternal Guard or Bretonnians getting a unit of Knights Errant on foot.

Do you want Bretonnians streamlined for an edition full of big monsters and then get a ruleset instantly outdating them?
Do you want Wood Elves streamlined for an edition nerfing skirmishers to death and then get a ruleset instantly outdating them?
