I've never been into RPGs, but my gaming group (we normally play 40k) started up a few Death Watch and Dark Heresy campaigns. Every time we have a combat encounter, I'm thinking, "Wow, this 'engine' would be fantastic for a skirmish game like Necromunda!".

We had a DW fight in which the squad (5 Marines) counter-ambushed 5 Tau Stealth Suits (a rival kill team) and it was a heck of a fight.

Has anyone adapted DW or DH to a skirmish-based game using 28mm minis and scale terrain to be played on a tabletop, using inches instead of grid spaces? How did it go?

I'm thinking...Characters drawn from DH or DW stat creation respectively, advances fudged a bit to allow for advancement like Necromunda, with the inclusion of some modified Squad Mode abilities a la DW to bring it together.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

My gaming group draws more experience from Warhammer 40k than from RPGs, so our Dark Heresy games are much more like small scale 40k; we measure in Inches instead of squares, use preplaced terrain and Warhammer models, and occasionally mesh the rulesets.

For example, one time my players needed to make a rather large "impression" on some Cultists, and used their positions as Acolytes to requisition a Leman Russ from local PDF.(Not sure if PDF have LRs, but i think so.) Anyway, instead of using whatever rules I needed to look up on tanks, we just played it with Warhammer rules. Next session is going to feature a huge battle, so I'm statting my characters in 40k tabletop and we're playing a game of 40k.

But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
