I have a 1k tourney coming up soon and I was at a lost as to how to effectively and cheaply pack in anti-tank. After reading through the dex some more and coming across Ketara's kabal guide, I saw that the Trueborn had the ability to become kinda like Long Fangs: cheap, heavy firepower.

For example: 3 Trueborn with 2 Dark Lances is only 86 points. To me that seems like an efficient use of points. The enemy can't afford to ignore it, but can't afford to do something about it.

Thoughts?

I really prefer to have them in a vehicle with 4 blasters. Most of my elites end up filled with either blaster trueborn or an odd squad of incubi because i love the models.

You can take 3 with darklances and but them in cover. They will draw the odd storm bolter from rhinos, drop pods and the like so cover is important. Thus cover is essential.

At 1000 points do you have 3 ravagers? 115 points for a ravager is a lot better than 84 points for 3 trueborn.

I have 1 ravager. Also bear in mind that budgetary constraints are my biggest problem.

And I was aware of the 4 blasters in a venom but I just wanna find other uses for it.

Just so you know, 3 trueborn with 3 blasters is 81 points, so you save 5 pts and get an extra lance weapon. Just food for thought.

And you can only bring 2 Darklances, not 3 in a trueborn squad, Exergy.

The thing is that 3 T3 models are as fragile as it gets - they become a lot tougher in a venom, just because of the vehicle rules. I would also say that a mobile-but-short-ranged unit fits the average DE army and play style better than a static firing infantry unit, it allows you to move and respond and hide behind terrain, not just slug it out with whatever your opponent puts down. (dawn of war deployment also really messes with elite/heavy support units of this type).

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts

obviously, you still need to take 3 trueborn as that is the min squad number.

4 Trueborn w/ 4 Blasters in a Venom with Dual Cannons. Best setup I have seen.

True, but then you'll probably also need to buy a venom or a raider for them.

@bounty, I failed to mention that I'm working on a 1k list of venoms, only reason the trueborn are in there is to provide cheap long range fire.

I use to take a 10 man squad with 2 DL in the old codex. That was 100 points.

It was nice to hang back and shoot any tanks it could see. At the end of the game it could run forward and grab an objective or gun down infantry.

But really it was out of sync with the rest of the army. Back then I didnt have an extra ravager, which would have been better.

Anyway 100 points for 2 DL with 8 ablative wounds that count as troops so can claim objectives was competitive even in a mech list, but 86 points for 1 ablative wound and an elite choice doesnt seem worth it.

At 1k points I think 3 Ravagers would be nice. With a Flickerfield they are 115 points each.

4 Blaster Trueborn in a Venom is around 160 points. So you only lose one lance weapon but have more more range and armor, and save 40+ points.

Alternatively haywire grenades are only 2points per wych.
