hello, i am having a conundrum with the deathstrike missile for my IG army.

Heres the thing, from what i can tell it is supposed to be a plasma warhead/ vortex warheads/ really big friggen blast/ titan hunting missiles (as givin as an example in the codex) But from what i am trying to understand it looks like it has a max blast of 6inches ( D3 + 3" blast) the --> " is inches right? (im sorry but im fealing like a tard on that one)

If that is so why should i even bother taking this thing (other then S10 AP1) when it sounds like it should have a 2 foot explosion radious (or at least the baneblade cannons template) And i would love to field one since it sounds really cool (and could have a good scenic base like an emplacement, since i would never move the thing)

Thanks for the time.

Read it again. It's d3+3" (yes " = inch) RADIUS. That means that the smallest blast it can have is an 8" diameter blast, while the biggest it can have is a 12" diameter blast.

It's D3+3 Radius...and the general attitude round here seems to be, don't bother taking one. Take a manticore instead, or, take one, but use it to terrorize your opponent into doing something stupid to take it out.

There's no particular need for a lock. We generally prefer to let threads die in their own time unless there's a particular reason to lock them.

Definitely not a competitive choice, but I keep one around anyway. A) It looks damn cool. B) It's a very fun unit, if not a competitive one. I keep it around for Apoc and themed battles.

I love the fluff and the model, but yeah, there are so many better Heavy Support choices regardless of what type of game and opponent you're facing.

ChrisWWII sadly has it right, it's an Apocalypse toy.

When one goes off in a normal game and hits your target, its glorious.

My purposed imp guard list was 3 deathstrikes with infantry and setinitals, with a unit of roughriders. Guess what my enemy will shoot at all game long?

Just buy camo, sit in cover, behind something if possible, and enjoy the look on your opponents face when it fires.

The triple Deathstrike list is one I've been wanting to see for a long time. I'm honestly quite interested in how viable it'd be.

As am I. I might proxy that someday just to see. I imagine, as previous folks have already mentioned, that it would be an impressive psychological weapon.

Now if only they had squadrons of the things...

So let se if I got this straight.
You get between 8-12" blast that does S10 AP1 and its full strenght is used for armor penentration under the full blast area.
And no cover saves allowed?

Yes, that is correct.

That's why it is variable chance to go off.

Not especially viable but extremely funny.

Actually, if you run 3 bubblewrapped deathstrikes with valks/vendettas and demo-charge toting special weapon squads, it works pretty interestingly. People just look at you all catatonic-like.

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

Radius, not diameter.

6 inch out from the middle (each way), not across the entirety.

the word you arew missing is RADIUS

As in, *half* the diameter.

You see that little star-like symbol after the word blast? looks like this: * ; that is an asterisk, it means that there is additional information.

Now you see on page 55 there is a paragraph after the weapon profile that begins with an asterisk? That means that this is the additional information associated to the one in the weapon Profile.

Now if you read that paragraph; you will see in the second and third sentences the word "Radius"; Radius is a part of a Circle defined as the distance from any point on the circle to the center of the circle. If you have a Circle with a Radius of 6" that circle will have a diameter of 12".

Diameter is a term in geometry referring to the width of a circle, from any point on the circle, through it's center, and ending on the opposite point of the circle. It can also be simplified as the width of a circle.

Edit: Damn, ninja'd because I was being a jerk.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Thanks for asking about the radius question Field Marshal Wiley, I was going to but wasn't sure if I'd missed something and then I'd look like an idiot (not that you're an idiot, I thought the same thing). you took one for the team.

It's a vortex weapon. It removes anything under the template except superheavy vehicles (which take d3 structure points off) and gargantuan creatures (d6 wounds). It's better than a regular Deathstrike.

But just in case I'm interpreting your question wrong, yes a Deathstrike ignores cover.
