'Waves hand' This isn't the user you are looking for.

Hi

Before I say anything I would like to make clear that I don't play grey knights.

I had to vote Coteaz because I would really like an all inquisition (ish) army and you need Coteaz to do that. Plus a guy fighting with the biggest hammer he could find and a bionic two-headed eagle, that is going to be one of my favorite conversions, just ever.

This is the reason that I rank the Champ as 2nd.

My old Grand Master remains number 1 though.

Grand Master. Decent close combat abilities, Grand Strategy, Psychotroke and Rad grenades. What's not to love? As far as utility is concerned, the Grand Master is up there with the CCS as one of the best HQs in the game.

My only regret is that I may end up having to take Draigo instead for his EW and making Paladins troops.

After the Grand Master, Librarian in a close second. Plenty of great powers, and the ability to cast 3 a turn if needed (although based on the few games I've played so far, that's generally a little overkill). Being a Paladin whore, the Shrouding is like a must-have for me.

GKGM with basic NFW (for 3++ in CC), rad and possibly psykotrope grenades, for giggles, is very good. Proper force multipler, both on an army with GS and on a squad with the Rad nades

Coupled with a libby with summoning and MoT, possibly sanctuary or shrouding, and you have a killer force

Nos hit the nail on the head. GKGM is amazing even with no upgrades, and a few extra cheap upgrades (around 20) and he gets even better. The only worry is he can be a points sink (range weapon upgrades mainly) if you are not careful. But it got my vote for best GK HQ, if not one of the best HQs (top 5 IMO) in 40k.

Librarian - Warp Rift is an auto-Pen on vehicles, Might of Titan turns your troops into Monstrous creatures, Shrouding gives your termies a 3+ cover save against those nasty AP1-2 weapons, and Sanctuary means your opponent always has to worry about the assault coming up short. Such a huge toolbox.

Librarian for precisely the same reasons as SMDVogrin. The Grand Master would be my second choice, though I am forced to take Draigo (who in fairness is good value, I just hate the model) in order to make paladins troops...

On moon miranda.

In terms of model? Draigo with helmet (though his fluff is beyond awful). He's rules are "ok", but his model looks solid ace.

In terms of general effectiveness? I'd say Coteaz or a generic Grand Master.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Ah, it seems Draigo is the public favorite. Hard to disagree, really, he is very good for points. Fluff isn't really important to me when Draigo is winning my games.

The GKGM is awesome, but he's like the Hive Tyrant; so many good upgrades too many points (until you may as well take Draigo anyway) - the difference is, the GM is already a good unit on his own . If you take him over 220 points, you may as well just go big with Draigo.

You know, all the other GK HQ choices make me wonder why they didn't find a more useful role/place for the Brotherhood Captain.. he really is redundant.

The GKGM is only abou 15 points more than the BC, so I don't see why it would ever be competition on which to take, even in small games, where a bare-bones GKGM is already far better than a GKBC anyway. But in a really small game of say, 750 or less, I'd probably just take Crowe and spam purifiers, which not much would stand up to.

Make that 75 points more, and add the fact that the BC's in artificier armour and as such can ride in rhinoes and razorbacks...

No... Grand Masters are 175 points, while Brother Captains are 150. Brother Captains are also in Terminator Armour. Are we looking at the same codex?

You may be thinking of Brotherhood Champions, which are all kinds of mediocre.

Edit: I just realised what's happened here. I wrote BC, meaning Brotherhood Captain, and Walrus thought I was talking about the Brotherhood Champion . Epic :faceplam: moment for us all, methinks .

Faffle's my friend, I think you just wrote what we were all thinking .

I was thinking about Walrus' post and checking my codex when I got distracted by somethin' or other and forgot this thread existed .

Since I last did a count of the votes an additional 9 have been cast! Stern even got one! So did Karamazov on his walk-chair of doom!

But alas, the unnecessary impediment that is the Brotherhood Captain still has zero votes.. quite deserving, I think, when you consider the substantialness of its inclusion in the codex.

I was checking my subscribed threads at the time, hense the fast reply.

Besides, you can't really say your favorite HQ is a unit that isn't even the HQ type.
