errrrrm where to start, i guess with what this is, this is my project blog for my tyranid swam as it grows..

(story time )

"gorrack readyed his shooter, pushing himself as far into the wall as he could. He could hear the beasts long deep breaths, in and out. Then a pause, it seemed like forever for gorrack, although he knew that to try and excape now would be the death of him, but then again, he was tough, and he was the only one of his boys not splattered accross the surrounding trees. With this train of thought gorrack burst from where he was hiding, shooter firing rapidly, and screaming WAAAAAAARGH. Gorrack was shocked, the beast seemed to have ran away, "not so tuff now are ya" he thought , but before he could gloat anymore he heard a deep exhale of breath, he turned as the beasts figre emarged from the jungle vines as if was part of the trees themselves. Gorrack had no time to scream waaargh this time, not before his entire body was renched inside out and devoured whole by the beast."

Anyway back to reality, im going to take some pictures of some stuff i already have and then post them at another time, but the basic plan for this blog is just to show what i already have and what i am planning to do.

ok, now i have taken a coupple of pics of some of some of the stuff i have knocking around. im going to talk a little bit about each unit seperatly and by the relevant picture. but first the colour scheme, they are painted
base coat of chaos black, dry brush dark angels green, drybrush snakebite leather, and depending on the model either a brown ink wash over the carapace or a highligh on it of skull white then rotting flesh. (im not the best painter, but i like to think i can make things pretty well so that kinda makes up for it.) i chose this scheme as when i was starting the army i wanted something very different, and when i went down to my local gamesworkshop i was inspired by the jugle terrain they had. this inspired me to create this cheme for my nids.

ok this is a gaunt..... its not the most interesting model i own but hay, its the mainstay for many of my army lists, at the moment i have arond 42 of these little buggers hanging around just waiting to go get shot to pieces. With gaunts i think it is best to keep your expectations low for what they will do in the game, as they are not the best in combat or at shooting but there are a bloody lot of them. i field mine usually in groups of 20 (i leave 4 of them out of my case) and i basically use them as cannon fodder. 20 gaunts is 20 wounds, and i think that is the best way to show how expandable they really are. Anyway theres another group shot of 12 of them just hanging around, i would have took a 20 gaunt shot but trying to light 20 gaunts and get them all into shot is'nt really that easy. anyway other gaunt pic is below.

ok now tyranid warriors. i have set these guys up in a unit of 6 with 5 deathspitters and 1 vennom cannon (gotta love the way gameswork shop names the guns lol). what is there to say about warriors, oh i know this unit cost 220 points, has 18 wounds, a ws of 5, and a 4+ sv..... what is there not to love. these are a great unit for holding and seizing objectives, as the vennom cannon can fire off strenth 6 small blast template shots into the foe at range untill the rest of the warriors are close enough to use there strenth 5 assult 3 ap 5 guns to turn anyfoe within range into a pile of melting flesh. looking at them tactically they fire 15 shots at 18" range, which tbh is'nt exsactly great but their 4+ sv and 3 wounds should get them within range. (unless your fighting space marines with lots of heavy bolters, or lascannons which inflictinstant death on these guys . but i guess you cant have it all)

THE PRIME... no not optimus. This is my current prime for this unit, he is a HQ choice and comes in at around 90 points which is quite a bargin. i use him in this unit to make them more effective, how you ask. the primes ability to make fellow tyranid warriors in his squad share his WS and BS leads to an intereasting conclusion... . basically he makes the warrior squad above a lot better in combat and a lot better at shooting. oh and btw his bone sword is a power wepon that can inflict instant death and his lash whip means anyfoe in base to base with him fights at initiative 1. so basically he's a monster. talking of monsters...

one of my many carnifex's. riiiiight where to start. ok so the horn on his face is from the trygon kit and apart from that he is built from the box (except the base, but im not counting that). remember a few posts ago when i talked about "Medusa's main strenth is in its abbiltie to produce the most complex of tyranid organisms within a short period of time" well this is how i am showing it. within my army many of my larger creature have some subtle convertions going on. but that will be seen later. with this model i usually drop it from a hive ship in orbit in a myetic spoor (shown below) behind enemy lines where its 12 strenth 6 twinlinked attacks make sort work of any infantary (did i mention it makes units take mral checks ) whilst the fact its an monsterous creature makes sure it can bust open any tanks hanging around. basically its a big distraction droped in the middle of the enemy army, you cant ignore it because it messing up your units but shooting it and not the main swarm is a equally bad mistake. but anyway spoor is blellow.

ok i know its not rotated... but this is my first propper bloggy sort of thing, so just go with it. it is made from a kids toy and its basically the shell for the toy. its a really good buy and i recomend getting them if you play tyranids. they are'nt expensive and once painted they look the part. If i find a link to the toy, ill post it.

i think i will leave it there for now. ill post some of the other things i have and talk more about what i am wanting to make and get for the army.

Fixed it for you, bigfish. Use the actual image url rather than the url of the page where the image is posted. You should also use the image tags ([ img ] image URL [ /img ], minus the spaces) when you want to post pics in a thread. Dunno about that last pic or how you got it there.

oks, ive set up my next instalment earlyer then i planned, mainly because i am going on a mini holiday for a week on friday, so i thought i would do this now. ok here are some more of the units i have in the case.

These are my zoanphropes. very uesful unit, as with the previous carnifex i place them in a myectic spoor and drop them in a annoying place for the enemy to deal with. they are great at killing large groups of infantary with their STR 5 AP3 blast wepons and they are equally as good at dealing with tanks and such, as the have their STR 10 AP2 lance attack. both extremly dangerous to any unit really, and with their 3+ invun they are not easy to shift. although a brill way to take them down is just to force as many saves from rubbish wepons as possible. for example a squad of grots shooting them will still force them to take their 3+ save as will a lascannon shot or any other high strenth wepon. their only toughness 3 after all so its not exsactly hard to wound them. this is why i deploy them in a myectic spoor, as they can shoot when the arrive i place them near a target i want gone there and then. i.e a landraider. then just let the STR 10 lance do the work.

hormagaunts, as with the gaunts they take place in many of my lists. again a unit that can be used used as cannon fodder, but i prefer to use mine slightly differently. with mine i tend to use them in sink with a squad of warriors with close combat wepons (i.e rending ect). the warriors keep the hormagaunts fearless and therefor moving towards the foe. the hormagaunts then hopefully charge the foe killing as many as poss and keeping then busy for their turn i then assult with the warriors which make short work of w/e is left. some say that the use of the warriors as well is a waste as the gaunts can deal with enemys themselves. but the fact that the warriors keep them fearless is reason in its self to take them. and then added to the fact that after the hormagaunts have charged they become a lot less effective, and frankly normally need help dealing with tougher enemys for example spacemarines. this combo is very effective and also provides the warriors with a 5+ cover save as long as the hormagaunts are inbetween the warriors and the things shooting. good tactic and recomend it, works best in smaller games 500 to 1000 points really. oh i have also added a seperate picture of my version of a hormagaunt sargent, basic idea here being that each squad should have a model with a slightly higher LD so as to help the entire squad remain together and under the influece of the hive mind. i have done this through a coupple of units in the army in different ways. its pretty obvious when its present though. anyway NEXT

ok this is another one of my carnifex's. This model is set up with 2 sets of schything talons and bioplasma. coming in altogether at a very cheap 180 points, its a great unit. again i usually pair it with some warriors and gaunts as it can deal with walkers and heavyly armoured foes. bioplasma in my eyes is a must, its a STR 7 AP2 blast wep that is also assault1. i use it to weaken any foes within range befor a nice charge for the carni. ok convertion, basically this is built from all componants from the box the only exception being the tail witch is from the trygon set. This is going to become evident later in the blog but i quite like converting things only using parts from that set. i.e its a carnifex box, lets see how i can twist this about. but anyway, its nickman is "bubatrygon" and it packs a similar punch. nothing beats a trygon though... sept maybe a trygon prime.

ok now the basic plan is over the coming weeks i will work my way thrigh everything i have already done. Then the real task begins, i know i want to make a tyranofex, another snakeyfex, a tervigon, a myeticspoor with heavy vennom cannon, and some objective markers. oh and a winged tyrant. with all of these i want them to be built of of the box but converted, so for example i have the carnifex box ready to make a tryanofex and i have some skethes of how i want to model the gun ect. but thats a while away and i wont start that untill i have worked my way through everything else i have.

so yea, if you like what ive done so far subscribe and comment, feed back would be great and i am defo not against repainting stuff.

thanks for reading.. i know its a lot

As for the rest, really like the dark alien flesh on your nids. I'm not a big fan of the carpaces thought, would be nice to see some feathering with on them. Carnifex pose looks really dynamic, I'd imagin it bursting out of the ground if it wasn't for the lower body

so the carapace is less blocky at the ends and sides. the same technique as they use on the GW pro painted stuff. where its sort of lots of little lines overlapping. similar to the stuff you did on your warriors but finer lines. im painting a tyrant now and i will post that when its done, but yea it will be like that... the picture that you cant see, erm anyway. i was just messing around sketching and yea, The hive tyrant medusa concept is actually quite cool. and with the model i could give it acid blood to represent venom and toxinsacs, implant attack and then say that its the enemy being turned to stone and even disector larvay, as they suck the water out of stuff leaving a dry husk. i am seriously considering making one later on. but yea i sketched a head, i think its pretty cool.

its been a while again since my last post but ive been working on a few things here and there and my Nids are kinda getting less attention. but i did manage to finnish making and painting my tyranofex. i was working from my sketch i did and it was actually really easy. i wanted a tyranofex that did'nt look like it had a giant dick for a gun so i worked the gun into the carapace instead of the body.

its been a while since i posted on here and the reason is because i have been building up my orks instead. altough recently i have started feeling the hive mind claw at the back of my mind. so tomorrow 2 things should be done.
i would have finnished building my doom of malan'tia's body and main bits, and i will have taken a full army shot of all of my swarm. which now numbers around 6000-7000 points. anyway this was more of a heads up for tomorrow but another note i am looking at forge world stuffs and am liking the look of hierodule's. and it seems unfair that my orks have a stompa and a squiggoth and my nids have no big cretures of there own.
thanks for reading

just looked at the rules for the doom of malantai and its not actually that great. its toughness 4 and does't have eternal warriour, so in short if you shoot it with a lascannon and it fails its 3+ invun it instantly dies. how annoying considering it can have up too 10 wounds and strenth 10. then again it is only 90 points so fair play really.

so i am preeetty close to finnishing my doom of malantia conversion. it just needs some green stuff work and then some painting and assembly and it will be set. .
i've kinda gotten over the fact it can be instantly killed, mainly because it can shoot strenth 4 ap 1 large blast shots from the turn it arrives. and for 90 points thats excellent .
oh and i took the swarm pic i said i would. PICS BELOW COMMENTS WOULD BE GREAT THANKS
