It seems that the filter only applies to what is actually shown, and not the content of the message.

For example, I quoted one user who had typed "f***ing" which was obviously translated to "fething". However, in my quote box, it showed "f***ing" instead.

Not sure if this is intended, fixable, or even a concern. Just throwing it out there.

It's been like that for years, as far as I can tell.

Although its not really on topic, go ahead and quote me. I type 'fething' by myself whenever I use it.

No, words are filtered even in quotes.

The only reason a word won't get filtered is if it is combined in with other words...in order to make the filter feasible, it doesn't pull letters out of other words, it just looks for full words.

So I'd love to see the example of what you're talking about, as it shouldn't be happening simply because the word is quoted.

I think he means that when you quote a word that has been filtered, you can see what the word was when you are typing up your post.

It then goes back to being filtered when you actually post though. So this isn't really a problem.

Yeah, the word shows up unfiltered when you are responding, in the edit window, not in a final post.

Yeah I know what you mean and it is intentional just in case the filter breaks something like a URL, bit of code, etc. so that you can just click quote and get the raw, unedited post. It is something you choose to see and is not forced upon all people reading dakka so is not an issue in my eyes.

OK, cool. Like I said, I didn't know if was a bug or a feature.
